reversed TOD video files won't render
Years ago JVC came out with a 3ccd camera that saves video files with a unique TOD extension.
Vieostudio X9 renders them with a struggle, but does NOT render a TOD file if it is reversed!!! Renders .mp4 & .mov reversed ok!
Is this an anomoly that has to be accepted?

Try changing the file extension from TOD to mpeg. It may work, do not have examples to try.

Hi David
Thought the OP was referring to X10.5 Time Remap > Reverse, but maybe I assumed too much?

Re: reversed TOD video files won't render
Hi
The Options panel has an choice to “ReverseVideo”, that plays the video backwards, I assume that is what serjr is referring to, I guess we need a reply.
Although Video Studio can import Tod video it cannot render to Tod, it can only convert the video to another format.
So rendering the video in reverse and changing the format may be a step to far for the program.
Rendering from say Mpeg4 to Mpeg4 reversed should be ok.
I believe this has been raised before, not sure if it was Tod files or another format, just the grey matter stirring….
Serhr
You should first convert your TOD files to another more editable format, choose your preferred output format, then apply the reverse to the new files to render again.

Re: reversed TOD video files won't render
In terms of teaching students - its a 'learn by doing' class. There's a pdf overview file attached. And the things that get taught are what the students need - or think they need - to do to get a particular result or effect. Filters are a favourite, as is screen capture using the tool, and various tutorials on 'how to' topics. VS is like other software - most use is of only 20% of functionality. I deal mostly with beginners, and over time that skill level expands as projects need better finishes. Which 20% is usually the issue. So, even tho that reverse function button has been there for years, playing clips in reverse (not sure why one would want to) hasn't come on the radar yet, and hence my dumb query.

Re: reversed TOD video files won't render
I converted the .tod to mp4, avi, and it won't render if the clip is reversed.
What I have to do is use Pro X4 which will do the job - with consequences...
it staggers slightly...
I live with it...

Re: reversed TOD video files won't render
I must admit that I never heard about TOD files, can you upload a small sample for me to learn it's habits?

Re: reversed TOD video files won't render
Hi
You would have to use a sharing site, Google Drive, One Drive, Drop Box etc.
Then provide a sharing / download link here
Unfortunately the forum only supports small files and the video will exceed that limit.
I would also be interested in trying those files.

Re: reversed TOD video files won't render
well - how could I get your email address. Would be more than happy to comply.
What I do when I have to use a video in reverse:
I can't render the project with a reversed video in it - no matter what the format is.
I have to load the clip as a project, reverse it, render it, and then add it into the project. Then it works!
Thanks for your continued support! You are invaluable.

Re: reversed TOD video files won't render
Yet you can reverse and render a single clip. Are you using the 'Reverse Video' feature on the video tab? I have seen this feature cause some issues.sekjr wrote:I can't render the project with a reversed video in it - no matter what the format is.

I would advise the above as a workroundsekjr wrote:I have to load the clip as a project, reverse it, render it, and then add it into the project. Then it works!

What error messages do you get when the render fails?
Have you applied any other edits to the clip, FX filter, transitions etc
When you render in a new project, did you apply any edits or rendered the raw clip.
Is the video frame rate the same as project properties?
