Corel PaintShop Pro 2018 Update 1 [NEW RELEASE]

Re: Corel PaintShop Pro 2018 Update 1 [NEW RELEASE]
After being promised by tech support that the update to PSP 2018 would support the RAW files from the Canon 6D Mark II, I'm unhappy to say that it doesn't. Glad I'm still on the trial period and haven't paid for this yet. And I probably won't.
Re: Corel PaintShop Pro 2018 Update 1 [NEW RELEASE]
It's good to hear that my effort is appreciated. However, my involvement in this public forum is definitely a corporate grey area. As part of Corel's R&D team, I'm asked to monitor forums and other sources to gauge feedback, only. Active contribution by posting or replying to diagnose bugs or share product info is done voluntarily on my own time and discretion. This is why it's difficult for me to reveal too much info (eg. issue with initial PSP2018 Update 1).brucet wrote:Nev I'm sure everyone here on these forums appreciates your contributions and input. It's something that Corel needs to do more often. Yes I know it can snowball. But just short comments such as 'we are aware of the issue and are looking into it' would be reassuring to users that Corel does care.

My own personal vision is for this public forum to (continue to) flourish into a community where current and potential PSP users can find useful info and help each other - instead of going to CS or not be able to find an answer at all. We'll see how that pans out. In the meantime, I'll continue to explore this grey area with the help of some very passionate and knowledgeable PSP users in this forum.
Best,

Oh good - knowing that you're R&D! Then I might as well add emphasis to the feedback I (and others) have posted in requests for years about letting us use different icons for boundscripts so that the icons are actually useful.Nev wrote:....As part of Corel's R&D team, I'm asked to monitor forums and other sources to gauge feedback, only....brucet wrote:Nev I'm sure everyone here on these forums appreciates your contributions and input. I think Brucet has a point though. I've been using PSP for years too, its not excusable to release a program with such obvious bugs. Shows a lack of competence in testing.Zantara wrote:Brucet, if you don't like PSP, why do you buy it? Just stick with your beloved Photoline and don't use every opportunity to promote the software. If we were that interested we wouldn't be on the PSP board now, would we?

They're damn smart! They let us do the testing.blipitcom wrote:I think Brucet has a point though. I've been using PSP for years too, its not excusable to release a program with such obvious bugs. Shows a lack of competence in testing.

Re: Corel PaintShop Pro 2018 Update 1 [NEW RELEASE]
I guess to be fair to Corel the myriad of setups and combinations of computers and systems would make releasing a bullet proof editor highly unlikely. All I would like to see is for Corel to publish a report covering which systems/setups they have tested with. That way we could help target potential problem areas. Yes free beta testers. But nonetheless a better solution than what currently exists.
As for the release of PSP201/1 with all of it's issues? Well if I was at Corel I would be having a very hard look at a few of their employment contracts. This will be a costly mistake for Corel for a long time to come.

Re: Corel PaintShop Pro 2018 Update 1 [NEW RELEASE]
I have been reading the update is version 20.2.0.1 Is that for the 32 bit version? I am running the 64 bit version and it was updated Wednesday October 4th and it now shows version 20.1.0.15 x64

Never mind. I installed the update from Corel's update page and now I get 20.2.0.1 x64 Why did it get the old update on Wednesday? Both said they were update number 1. Weird.

Re: Corel PaintShop Pro 2018 Update 1 [NEW RELEASE]
If you read back in this thread, you will see that the first version of Update 1 caused a variety of problems for many users. That version of the update gave you version 20.1.0.15 of PSP. Corel sensibly deleted that update, fixed it, and reissued it. That is still called Update 1, but gives you version 20.2.0.1 of PSP. And the version number is the same in both 32 and 64 bit versions of the program.

Re: Corel PaintShop Pro 2018 Update 1 [NEW RELEASE]
Thanks for the info. Since you said it was safe to apply the update again and it would tell you it was already updated I tried it. It updated to the correct version. Still since mine just updated Wednesday the old update shouldn't have been available but it was.

Re: Corel PaintShop Pro 2018 Update 1 [NEW RELEASE]
I got the PSPro 2018 update pop up, had my workspace saved, so I updated. Told it to reload my saved workspace and none of my previously saved icons were on the toolbar.
Now I can't even find a way to customize (add my most used) to the tool bar at all. Anyone know what to do? Also lost all my previous paths to plugins so had to redo all those.
I would sure like to know how to do the "NEW! Customizable Toolbars" that we are supposed to be able to do.
Thanks.

When you go to Help>About..., what version number does that show for PSP?Tana_Lynn wrote:I got the PSPro 2018 update pop up, had my workspace saved, so I updated. Told it to reload my saved workspace and none of my previously saved icons were on the toolbar.

Re: Corel PaintShop Pro 2018 Update 1 [NEW RELEASE]
Love PS Pro, hate this update. Downloaded it today and it failed to install and took the PS Pro base program with it (running on Win10 64 bit). Left files that can't be deleted so I did a clean install of the base version in a new directory. Tried installing the update a second time. Again it failed to install correctly and left files I can't delete (owned by system). I guess I need to wait for Corel PaintShop Pro 2018 Update 1A or 2. This one is not working. Anyone else with the same problem (and a fix hopefully)?

Re: Corel PaintShop Pro 2018 Update 1 [NEW RELEASE]
As you'll see from other posts, many of us have installed the new PSP Update 1, some users installing it on a fresh install of PSP2018, others installing it on PSP2018 that had the first, buggy update also installed. In all instances so far everyone seems to be satisfied that the new Update 1 works fine. I don't have a clue how trying to install the update could have removed the basic PSP2018 from your system - that seems quite unlikely.
Did you start with a fresh install of 2018 or an install of that program as well as the first, buggy update? What version of 2018 was showing before trying to install the update? Did you download the update and then execute that file to try installing it? At what point did the installation of the update fail? Did you get any warnings or messages when it failed? What specifically do you mean when you said that trying to install the update took the basic program with it?
Details are going to be important if any troubleshooting is going to be done.

Re: Corel PaintShop Pro 2018 Update 1 [NEW RELEASE]
Hi Joe,
I never installed the buggy update to my knowledge. The only one I downloaded was the one available on Oct 9th. I assume that was the new release and not the buggy one.
The second time around it was a fresh install of 2018 version 20.0.0.132 x64. Which I have now done a third clean install of.
The update failed at this point:
InstallSheild attempts to insall C\..\Corel PaintShop Pro 2018 (64-bit\Corel PaintShop Pro.exe
The error message says:
File Error
The following error occured on the file 'c:\Program Files\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro 2018 (64-bit) 4\Corel\Corel Paintshop Pro 2018 (64-bit)\Corel PaintShop Pro.exe'.
Cannot create a file when that file already exists.
(0xb7)
Note the update install did not erase the base version it just made it so that it does not run.
of possible interest while neither the 32 bit or 64 bit versions will run successfully after the update, the 32 bit version does put up the splash screen and indicates Version 20.2.0.1 before it fails. The 64 bit version comes back with "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item."
