Audio Distortion when importing files into V.S. X7 & X10

Post by glbpro »

Hello everyone, long time VideoStudio user here, completely trouble free up to this point. Really love the VS platform!

I recently purchased a Panasonic FZ1000 and for the first few months its output worked fine with VS. Then just last week, I shot a video using the camera in AVCHD mode and upon importing the clips into VS I had this strange distortion - it is difficult to describe but it sounds like a 'bubbling' or low popping in the background. When the raw video is played back in VLC media player it is clean, with absolutely none of this. Unfortunately the distortion is also found in the rendered files.

Here are the specs of the raw files:

Image

The distortion appears whether I play back the file in clip or project mode.

You can hear the distortion here, during the guitar playing: https://youtu.be/nh63if8Se4g?t=43m9s

I tried switching to MP4 mode on the camera and the same thing happened, although the noise was less noticeable.

The distortion occurs with both VS X7 as well as X10.

This is the first time I have ever had this happen with VS - I have used the footage from three cameras successfully over the past five years with various iterations of VS with absolutely no audio issues. At first I thought it was a problem with the camera but when the raw files are played back in VLC media player they are fine.

Any help or advice would be most appreciated, thank you.

Regards,
Bruno

Listened through headphones but could hear no popping or bubbling. Have you tried Audacity to clean up the sound?
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

That is a very long (48 minute) clip... and really I don't have time to listen to it all. So can you point out exactly where in that clip the bubbling noise occurs since in the samples I played, I could hear no distortion. And I enjoyed the guitar!! But are you absolutely sure you are not hearing something introduced by your filtering device (not that I could hear any bubbling, just the different tones produced by the device)?

Thanks for taking the time to listen and respond - all I can say is I'm glad you couldn't hear the issue! Perhaps it is some sort of strange glitch with my playback system.

Thanks Ken for the reply! Listen from 43:09 - the exact point the link takes you to and you will hear it - I would never expect anyone to listen to the whole video! It is only evident during the guitar playing, not during the dialogue.

It could well be some strange issue with my playback setup - all I know is that when I play the clips back in VLC media player they sound clean, but when I play them back in VideoStudio they have this distortion.

If enough people come back and say they can't hear a problem I will just assume it is something wrong with my ears and move on :D

Hi Bruno

Listened from the 43:09 start point, could not hear any popping/bubbling noise. The Reverb machine seems to work because it was prominent, to the point of being distracting in my opinion, but the audio was "clean" on my setup.

And I've now listened again from that point, but again can hear no distortions. Played loud over my computer's 5.1 Logitech speakers...

I listen from that point, the sound is too loud by ~6db and indeed slightly distorted at the very high points

Thanks for listening Asik. However this still does not explain why the raw video plays clean on VLC media player yet develops issues when imported into VS. Quite a mystery...

Let us have a short raw stuff and we will re-check.
I never had any sound issues with VS
Do you have any audio meters during record?
