Not sure if this problem has been reported. I’ve reproduced a bug that freezes the application (not the whole computer) while using Batch Convert.
You can reproduce it by:
1) Load a video in edit mode. I used many different resolutions with a H264 - MPEG-4 AVC (part 10) (avc10) codec.
2) Edit it and remove a couple clips.
3) Save under a project name
4) Select Batch Convert, add the project (you only need one), save as type MPEG-4, hit convert.
Doing several videos in a row will hang the program. Some of them convert but within 1-3 conversions it will freeze up the program having to end VS in the task manager. One point of interest is it will always do the complete conversion. Sometimes the completion screen pops up then it's hung, sometimes it never makes it that far but on inspection of the output video it always got completed. So it seems to be freezing up on exit.
It worked for weeks converting hundreds of videos and just started freezing recently. Not sure if it was a VS Update or MS 10 Update that could have caused it. I'm using VideoStudio X10.5.0.60 (64 Ultimate)
I’ve reproduced this on three different machines, configurations are listed below.
Any advice welcome.

Re: Batch Convert Bug
I suggest reporting bug to Corel. I have not done Batch Conversions, so I can't give you personal experience, but it may be worthwhile seeing if the bug is also in X9 (assuming you have it installed)

Re: Batch Convert Bug
Hi Dan
If you are only adding the one VSP then why use Batch.
Batch convert simply allows us to add more than one file, video or VSP, I do not think the render process will be any different to using Share.
What happens if you use your project, open in edit mode, then Share to choose a conversion template. Does the program also freeze.
What are your Project Properties?
What are the properties of the video files?
What are the settings you used to render the project the actual Mpeg4 settings.
Are you using different files to ones used earlier when rendering completed ok?
You mention using different resolutions, are those mixed in the same project, or different projects using different types.

Re: Batch Convert Bug
Hi Trevor,
Thank you for the questions, they made me dig a little more into the problem.
I noticed this morning, when asked if I wanted to change the project settings to video settings so VideoStudio can perform SmartRender I said no. I ran 10 conversions with no problem. I said yes, and it froze immediately. Saying yes, didn't make sense to me, wouldn't it try to convert the same resolution to the same resolution? Although it did freeze also.
In a few days I'll look into it deeper. You've given me a lot more to go on, so I'll see if I can get a better resolution on what I'm experiencing.
Thank You
Dan

Using one VSP in batch was only to recreate the failure. For one file I do use share.lata wrote: If you are only adding the one VSP then why use Batch.
No there has never been a freeze using share.lata wrote: What happens if you use your project, open in edit mode, then Share to choose a conversion template. Does the program also freeze.

Yes, but they all came from the same camera.lata wrote:

Only one file is used, cut in several places with clips removed, the remaining clips are all from the same original file. I may have some files from other cameras, but only work with one file at a time, not mixed.lata wrote: You mention using different resolutions, are those mixed in the same project, or different projects using different types.

Re: Batch Convert Bug
Hi Dan
I suspect your video files properties may be causing the problem when trying to set the project properties. There was a similar post using a Mpeg4 with no audio, Video Studio did not like that, changing the project properties to match the output settings rather than the input settings seemed to fix that, the result added audio or changed the frame rate, either way the crashes stopped.
Your video appear to be using 4:3 ratio where the project appears to be 16:9, unusual frame sizes, I would not expect that to cause any problems, but strange things can happen. The data rate seems a little low below the minimum we can manually set (2000kbps), again just different, but Show Messages can override that and set 1839kbps.
I would suggest you manually set your properties using either the Mobile or On Line Mpeg4 options
Choosing the template you would use to render / complete your video.
I am unsure if your video is 4:3 or 16:9? if you choose the wrong option you may get a black border on the final video
Deselect the Show Messages option via F6

Re: Batch Convert Bug
Thanks Trevor,
That gives me a lot to look at and more options to work with then I thought I had. I'm new to using VS to any great depth, so this definitely helps.

Re: Batch Convert Bug
Hi
Only my opinion here……….
In earlier versions of Video Studio the Show Messages was limited in the type of files it could use to match project properties, with the choices being limited the chance of getting it wrong was minimal.
Now many video types can be used for project properties, some video settings although being used by Show Messages cannot be set manually but does help with some types.
Unfortunately allowing more types to match may introduce more errors.
Show Messages are selected by default for X9 and X10 as most users would use that option, clearly that is causing some issues for you.
But as I say manually setting the project properties to your intended output settings should cure your crashes.
What you convert / render to depends on what you are making, a DVD Disc, Bluray disc, or Video for Computer- Internet playback etc
