I have X9 Ultimate.
I would like to know how to shape text within a pennant/ribbon/flag so that it follows the contour/direction.
I suspect it is probably complicated, but any advice will be most welcome.

Grab the text tool, hover over the stroke of the object until the cursor changes to a letter on a curve. Then click and start typing.
You can also, Ctrl + click on both an existing text object and the path you want it to follow, right click and select attach to path.

Good Evening!
Interesting thread.. I am wondering if the shape into which the text must fit has to be a vector.

Yes. If you want text to follow a path it must be a vector.
In recent versions text wrapping was added this can follow either a vector path or a selection.
