Anybody able to Export HDV to Sony HDR-HC1 with MSP7 & H

Post by the_tom56 »

I just got MSP 7.0 and the HDV plugin 2.0 because of the claimed support for HDV roundtrip from/edit/to the Sony HDR-HC1.

I am able to capture and edit HDV ok. No luck at all exporting back to a tape on this device. It seems it should be simple enough: on Video Editor, first convert the captured and/or edited file to a transport stream with File/Convert/Video File... etc [yes, yes, carefully selecting the correct HDV TS template, and yes, yes, Device Control is set to HD 1394 control and the selection is SONY] then use File/Export/DV recording... pick the TS (m2t) file you just made, go through the 2 pages of dialog.

But, after I click on the Record button on the HDV Recording - Record window, the HDR-HC1 goes into record mode, the tape spins, but on the cam's display the timecode does not advance and there is no video. After it finishes, I rewind and play - it is about the right length of time, but empty.

But once, on one file, I saw a few frames worth of video and a heard a couple secs of sound on the Sony. So, I start to guess, maybe the MSP7's conversion to transport stream file is hosed. I copy the m2t to another computer with a MyHD 130, which can capture TS directly from the cam and can also play transport streams directly - I drop the m2t file that came out of MSP7 on the MyHD player and lo! it plays through, but it is severely trashed from begin to end - jerky, big blocks of random color, with intermittently a second or two of good clear video.

So I go back to MSP7 and ask it to convert its own transport stream file back to a regular mpg (program streams) file. It does - I open it in Video Editor - and voila! the video is trash!

Note also that for most of the above, including the attempt to reverse the transform, I did no editing at all of the captured video - I just worked with the file exactly as captured by Video Capture. (That original capture file BTW plays fine everywhere I tried it, including on the MyHD).

Since it can't even reverse its own transform, and all the evidence suugests that the transport stream created by MSP7 is not valid, I am concluding that MSP7 and/or HD plugin 2 apparently just does not work on the output side of the workflow.

I would be extremely interested in hearing from anybody else, any further experience or evidence for or against this conclusion.

Especially, has ANYONE using MSP7 and the HDV Plugin 2.0 succeeded in writing HDV back to a tape on the Sony HDR-HC1?

I am having the same or a similar problem. When I try to export the .m2t file back to Sony HDR-HC1, the display on the camera will display 1/2 second of video and stop, 1/2 second of video and stop, and so on. Specifically, it stops at frame 7 and 22 for every second of video. When I play back the tape, there is nothing recorded. When I try to play back the m2t file in VideoLan, it plays about 1/2 second then crashes. So in my case also, it appears that the m2t file created by MSP is corrupted.

I have tried turning smart render on and off. The results are the same both ways.

I did go through the process of uninstalling MSP, reinstalling MSP, reinstalling the HD plugin, and reinstalling SP3 without any of the previous service packs. That was posted as a solution to the problem of SP3 killing the HD plugin.

As I detailed in another post, I am unable to create the m2t file directly when I select create video. I need to create an mpg file then use the convert option to convert it to m2t.

Also, after I do the export and click "finish" on the dialog box, MSP freezes. The only way to get out is to use Windows task manager.

Has anyone been able to successfully export back to the Sony HD camearas?

Thanks

Joe

I've exported an edited HD Video back into the HDR-HC1

I've exported a couple of small HD video edits back onto my Sony HDR-HC1. Plays fine. The one problem I did notice though was when I did a picture in picture effect. I had three streams of video shown all together towards the end of my video project...when trying to export it to the cam, it halted a couple of times and then finally chugged along. For the most part, most of my other video edit projects with pretty standard transitions were exported back to the HDR-HC1 just fine.

I'm using Service Pack 2 of Media Studio Pro 8 because it looked like after I installed service pack 3, I lost the selection for creating transport streams. I just did an uninstall of all of media studio pro and then reinstalled and its worked fine since.

Joe Linn - I am having the same problem you reported, but only with a single file. I have been able to recored four files onto a tape but the fifth one gets part way through and then will start the 1/2 second starting and stopping you describe.

Have you found a solution ?

I think I did find an answer to this one. I discovered I only have the problem when I render a clip with no audio track. If I add audio, or even a silence clip on the audio track, everything is fine.

Unfortunately that is not my problem since I have audio through out with the exception of the title and a tree second fade to black at the end, but that is no different than the other seven clips I have recorded on the same tape without a problem.

I understand that Media Studio Pro 7 with the HDV plugin had problems, that is why I waited for MSP8, I haven't had the first problem capturing and exporting to tape.

I know its no help for those of you that have MSP7 but the upgrad to 8 has gone down $50.00, when I purchased it cost $249.00, now its $199.00.
