VS x10 Ultimate Won't Update

Post by GWild »

Hi,

Hoping someone has a solution...

Reinstalled VS x10 (purchased new in May 2017) - it's now on a new machine, a fresh clean install - but when I try to update to v10.5 using either the internal download process or manual download then install I get errors to the effect it can't verify my serial number or the version of the installed software. Since I never tried to update the old install - no clue if my selection of a minimal install is to blame.

What I've tried:
1) Help>Check for Updates (proceeds to download, installer fails)
2) Exit (autoupdate starts, download proceeds, installer fails)
3) Manual download of VSX10_SP1.exe (installer fails)
4) Manual Download of VSX105_Update.exe (installer fails)

My installed version is: 10.0.0.137 x64 Ultimate (though the scrolling license says its the Pro version)

HELP!

Hi

You probably thought of this...but never afraid to state the obvious.

Think you should uninstall, then use the appropriate Cleanup tool, linked to by lata at the top of the page. Then try re-installing. Maybe worth downloading from scratch, if possible.

I just did a fresh install on a brand new machine, then tried to update. How would a uninstall/cleanup/reinstall help?

Guessing here, but your system has reacted to the update in an unexpected way, this suggests to me that the update file(s) have been corrupted, and in trying to update with corrupted files, may also have caused problems with the already installed files.
OK, it may not help, but worth a try, I think because on a fresh machine you have little to lose, but time.

If you figure it out, let ua sll know.

Hi GWild

There was a problem regarding the Corel Server that affected updates.
The program would show that a service pack is available, when we hit download nothing happened.
As far as I know Corel fixed this issue and auto updates should be working, does not seem to be the case for you.

Your issue also goes a little further with the mention of Invalid Serial number.

Although I have passed the details of this post to Corel I think you should do the same, maybe via their chat line as you can give more detail regarding your system.

This was a fresh install on a new computer ... and all Corel is recommending is I remove my "old install" (which didn't exist) - run the cleaner - then reinstall. Not very helpful, at all.

All I can think of now is that I didn't do anything to "clear" my old serial number from my old computer. But I don't see any option to do that in the menus (ala Adobe CS tools which do have a deactivate feature).

Hi

Your serial number being on the old pc will have nothing to do with this issue.

This is what I would try.
Uninstall CVSX10 using the Cleanup tool
Then delete the 20.0 folder from
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro (x64)\20.0
Yes I realise re-installing should not be needed on your new pc, but will be installing from a new download file.

Download CVSX10 again.
Create a new folder on my pc
I would download the Trial for X10, that will download the latest Web Installer ( Stub) approx. 10Mb. I think its called (vspx10crl.exe)
Save to new folder.
Running that to insert my serial number, do not install trial.
Choose the Main program only, although you can download the rest later.
If the Service Pack / Update is available, download that as well.
Choose to download only, to the new folder.

Install the Main program only + update if available.

Run the program a few times, the auto updates should show.

If there is a problem with the Corel Server then you may get the same issues.

If all works, install the additional packages, Contents and Bonus.

I may not have said, but this was a CLEAN INSTALL FROM NEW DOWNLOAD ... thus removing it just to do the exact same thing twice seems, well, I have heard of people doing the same thing over and over getting the same result called crazy. And Iala - it was the MAIN PROGRAM ONLY option... I don't need all the extras Corel ships with the application.

Seems I am in Support 'hell' territory; they say I must reinstall... lol. They also ignore the fact this was as clean an install as one can get; doing it twice means the installer is broken or worse, intermittently broken. But then these same folk install adware along with the application and deny doing so (guised as samples that if you use you must buy; and you can't delete them even though these same "samples" surf the web every time you click that folder ... lol).

Anyway - thanks for trying to help;

Just another thought... Did you buy version 10 as an update from a previous version? That would at least explain why, on a completely new install on a different computer, it was looking for an earlier version of VS to justify it being an update version, and thus why the serial number was judged to be invalid for a non-update version. FYI, an update version is a full version, and only relies on finding an earlier version to justify the update price. And of course the serial number structure is designed to make a distinction between fully new and update versions...

VSx10 was purchased May of 2017 as a full and complete NEW install. I installed it onto my old computer, and never updated it (I think it also would not update, but don't remember for sure - what is curious is I don't recall it even trying to update).

Hi GWild

Your frustration is understood. Corel Help go through a series of steps to try to identify the root cause of your difficulty - not all seem immediately understandable and can lead to increased frustration. But, I would hang in there.

My suggestion, now, after uninstalling VS X10 and using the clean up tool, is open a new user account and install from the new user account. Try that. What I do not know is the version of X10 that will be installed - is it X10 or X10.5. Maybe you know, or will find out!

Can someone tell me why an UNINSTALL/CLEANUP/REINSTALL would be any better than a CLEAN BRAND NEW INSTALL ? This is just too funny, in a very sad way.

Mr Jones, I am sorry your brand new car won't start. Please remove and replace the engine and try to start the car again, we are sure that will fix your problem and then you can drive it off the new car lot.

Your install is not so fresh now. So, the traces of the failed install needs to be eradicated before trying again.

What anti-virus s/w are you running? Have you disabled it during install?

Are you logging on as Administrator?

Have you tried right clicking and choosing "Run as Administrator"?

Have you created a new Administrator User Account to install through?

Did you put fuel in the car Mr Jones?
