Working with different size captures

Post by Bokie »

I have some captures that are different dimensions ex. 430 x 300 and I want to put them in a presentation that is going to be 720 x 480 when I am done. I do not mind if there blank areas around the example. How do I overlay a 430 x 300 video on a background of 720 x 480?

I hope I am asking this right. My problem is that if the orginal capture is not 720 x 480 it causes qualty problems when I create the movie.

Thank You

There are several ways to skin a cat, but my first question must be how on earth did you capture at such an odd format?

One way would be a "fixed moving" path, where you set the size to suit the dimensions and the position likewise, keeping the aspect ratio and making sure you have exactly the same numbers on both the first and last keyframes.

Another way would be to use the "picture-in-picture" feature (which really amounts to the same). This could overlay another image, if you wish, or a background of whatever colour you prefer or, if nothing, it will, by default, have a black background.

Another is to set your project up to use non-square pixel rendering and the clips aspect ration. I use this often to mix 4:3 and 16:9 footage on the same timeline.
