Hi, good afternoon. I am completely new to PSP 2018 and I am currently on page 30ish of the user guide but I'd like to do something with the program now (with your help please) I have a picture of my grand-kids in a Jacuzzi and I would like to put a dolphin in there with them too. I do have a suitable picture of a dolphin. Would someone be kind enough to tell me how to do this please or at least point me in the right direction or indicate the correct page in the user guide. I do realise I am trying to run before I can walk but please humour me.
Thank you and have a nice day.

Re: Placing an image into another picture.
You have to have the dolphin by itself with all of the image around the dolphin being transparent. If the dolphin is part of an image with background stuff around it you have to first promote that image - if the layer shows it as a Background layer - to a regular raster layer. Then use a selection tool to select only the dolphin and then copy that dolphin selection and then, putting focus on the other image, paste the dolphin as a new layer. You can then move the dolphin around, rotate it, resize it, etc., to achieve the effect you want.
So if you're new to graphic editing then you need to use the User Guide to learn about Selections and about Layers as a minimum in your learning process about achieving this to obtain the best results. Feathering selections to make the dolphin have smoother edges, using anti-alias, etc., is one example of info that will be helpful.

Re: Placing an image into another picture.
There are a number of good youtube videos that provide alternative means as well:
To start this video explains about Background v raster layers, promoting a background layer and the need to do this to get transparency.

Giraffe isolation Object Extractor

Similar to dolphin in pool

Using Background Eraser to isolate
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVdGITPeBBI
You might try each of these procedures on a very simple image (eg a picture tube on a background first just to test out and see which you find suitable.
My preference is the Object extractor and then using the eraser/ Uneraser tool and then finishing with the soften brush for the edges
