Single RAW photo HDR grayed out in X9?
Trying to use the single RAW photo HDR in X9 (64) but it's grayed out. Worked fine in previous versions. Any idea how to get it back?

Re: Single RAW photo HDR grayed out in X9?
Had that happen once awhile back in X6- think I restored the database to get back to normal-
Click File Database Backup Import.
You will be prompted to close the application. The backup database file is imported when you restart the application.

Thanks. Just tried that, but apparently I don't have a database backup to restore from...

In that event try resetting PSP to default. If that doesn't work, uninstall and reinstall the program which should create anew database.
One last thing- longshot- right click on image and click Refresh.

Re: Single RAW photo HDR grayed out in X9?
I'll try all that. But, the way single image RAW works is that you need to get the image after starting that feature. So if it's grayed out, like it is here, there is no image to refresh.

Re: Single RAW photo HDR grayed out in X9?
I have the same problem. I have used the feature a lot on a previous computer but it never shows up for me now. I have tried reinstalling and the restore database thing but I still have the problem.
Any further help much appreciated.

Re: Single RAW photo HDR grayed out in X9?
Single Raw Photo works from the Organiser.
Instructions:
1 In the Manage workspace, select the thumbnail of a RAW photo. [You can also use Edit mode so long as you have the Organiser strip below with your raw file in it and it must also be recognised by PSP]
An orange outline appears around the thumbnail of the selected photo.
2 Click File HDR Single RAW Photo.
3 In the Step 1: Split Photo window, choose a profile from the Camera response curve profile drop-list.
If you are not sure what to choose, select Auto Select.
4 Drag the EV Interval slider to set the simulated exposure interval. This value is used to split the photo into three versions.
If you don’t want the middle exposure to be set at 0, drag the Center Exposure slider to set a new value.
5 Click Split Photo to break the photo into three versions. Three thumbnails appear in the tray.
6 If you’re happy with the results, click Process.
You can now optimize the photo using the HDR controls in the Step 2 and Step 3 windows

Thanks!
Knowing that the single-exposure HDR is available in the Manage mode is gold.
Your other suggestions work great in PSP 2018.
BTW -- the single-pic HDR also works in the grid view.
BTW2 -- I also note that single-exposure HDR says it is available in PSPx7 Edit mode, but all I come up with is a blank. I'll stick with PSP 2018.

Single pic HDR was introduced in X5 , Have tested it in X5 and X7 in Edit mode with Organiser viewing and it works correctly there.
What problems does it cause you in X7?

Re: Single RAW photo HDR grayed out in X9?
PSPx7 and 2018 both allow HDR from single images in Manage and Edit modes. Problems in PSPx7 and 2018: no HDR in jpg's (SilkyPix DS7 e.g. allows HDR adjustments to jpg).hartpaul wrote:Single pic HDR was introduced in X5 , Have tested it in X5 and X7 in Edit mode with Organiser viewing and it works correctly there.

Re: Single RAW photo HDR grayed out in X9?
Not sure I really understand you.
From PSP X5 upwards you can use a single raw file in HDR Single Raw photo to create 3 jpg images that then go through the HDR Exposure Merge to produce a HDR image.
You can use a number of jpg images preferably taken on tripod to produce a HDR image using HDR > Exposure Merge.
Are you complaining that you cannot take a single jpg image and do HDR on that?
I can take 5 images with different exposures of the same scene shot with a tripod and then in X7 do File > HDR > Exposure Merge .
I get a strip at the bottom and a large + sign and clicking on that opens a navigation window where I can navigate to the folder containing those 5 images and they are loaded in and allow me to process them as a HDR image.

Re: Single RAW photo HDR grayed out in X9?
I'm not complaining, precisely. After all, you can hit an image with Fill and get some of the same effect. Plenty of good workarounds in PSP. But elsewhere it is called "HDR" -- sort of an artificial HDR, as it were.hartpaul wrote:Not sure I really understand you.

Not to be a 'nit picker' but is it HDR or Tonemapping?

They call it "HDR." Tonemapping is another function. Usually you will see both.bruce1951 wrote:Not to be a 'nit picker' but is it HDR or Tonemapping?

Re: Single RAW photo HDR grayed out in X9?
I only raise the subject as 'true' HDR involves capturing the 'correct' exposures. Using just one file and then 'milking' the file to create more files is really 'pseudo' HDR.
Just being technically a PITA!!
