I'm creating a DVD with a series of projects on dance, with menu. I've elected to change the background of a smartscene menu to a ballroom dance video which has an integral sound track. Turned off the default music - the only option to do that is shown, otherwise choose music from somewhere .. - because it would drown the video sound. But after I did that, the preview play of the menu had no sound at all. To illustrate, the following screenshot
shows the default music de-selected, the menu background video chosen is displayed, but on preview while the clip imagery plays around the menu item there is no accompanying sound, altho the video clip has it embedded.
Is this a known fault?
How do I fix it so the clip sound plays during the menu presentation, as the default or any alternative music would?

Re: DVD menu background video - audio missing
David, did it ever worked? I never do DVD's but as far as I see here on my 19.2, no sound either.
And it says "no music selected".
the workaround would be to produce the sound file you want and select it.

Re: DVD menu background video - audio missing
Hi David
When using Motion Menu the audio has never played from the video, it has always been silent.
Never really thought about it but could be an advantage if it were able to play provided we can deselect if needed.
As asik says creating your own audio file may be the way to go, but if you want “Lip Sync” then you have a problem.
Unfortunately not a fault but how the burner was designed, but it could be improved, there are a few options that need a tweak / upgrading in the burner module.
I have not burnt a disc in a few years, and when I do its usually as an archive.

Export the sound from the video in Videostudio as a wave file and insert it into the music option in the DVD menu creator. Never ever has the music from a background video played on a DVD menu. Are you new to Videostudio

Re: DVD menu background video - audio missing
Doing DVD's is a major learning activity of my movie class - despite the cloud, dropbox, onedrive etc, that recordable 5in plastic disk is still popular. The students often say their targets are familiar with them, things like dropbox are too complex. Moreover, the price of a DVD disk barrel in the stores has dropped steadily over the years and you can get them everywhere. Disk mailers are available in every post shop. The replacement (bluray disks) have vanished form the stores: apparently they don't sell.
This is the 1st time I've experimented with a replacement video clip in a menu and was a bit surprised at the result. I've often done replacement audio music in a menu and that's worked fine. While it seems allowing replacement video and not allowing clip audio as part of it is pretty odd, if it's been around - for years as Trevor says - then the workarounds suggested are the way to go. Fortunately, lip sync isn't needed.

Re: DVD menu background video - audio missing
Update
Split the clip audio and rendered/saved it as a .wav file. Then in the menu setup, selected that music file as the menu audio clip. Marked it in at 1min 15sec, set the video background time cycle to 30 sec and adjusted the clip to start at 1min 15 sec. Preview play - it all works: the set of music starting at the 1min 15 sec point matches the video clip and playing on loop for 30 sec was what I wanted at the top level menu. A tad tedious but it works.

Re: DVD menu background video - audio missing
Hi
A further issue when using Motion Menu is the 30 second limitation, then the effect replays.
But that also affects the audio which is also limited to 30 seconds.
Deselect Motion Menu and you would think the 30 limit would be removed, not so any audio used is limited to 30 seconds.
It would be good if I could select one of my favourite songs to play over the menu, it may be 4 minutes, but again no go, the 30 second rule is applied.
The burner module needs updating to give it more flexibility..
