Ken, your results follows mine, in that PSP 2018 opens much quicker when offline, which points to the fact that it is searching the store on opening the New Image dialog. LeviFiction called this one correctly?

A problem I got with PSP2018 is : very slow when I open it a lot slowest then X9
And the the use of tools is very slow comparative of X9
Tools clone is working really badly , I just can't use it, have to go on X9 who was working really well and fast

Someone has the same problem ?

I'M on win7

I think most people experienced speed increases with 2018, not slowdowns. With the clone tool did you try turning off the overlay?

Do you have the same Step setting as in X9 ?
Try with a value of 10.

With Overlay remove it going well, and the slowness is only at opening, after going well , it is when you wait for all image page . Thanks LeviFiction

LeviFiction wrote:I'm convinced this has to do with getting updated store information from Corel's servers. Essentially, if Corel's servers are ever slow to respond or your network connection is slow, the New Image dialog will be delayed in opening. That's all speculation and I could be way off. But that's what it looks like to me. What causes that delay, if Corel's servers have just been overtaxed, or if our ability to connect to them has been hampered while others have not. I don't know. But with the Template options being built into the New Image dialog it's the only thing that makes sense to my tiny mind.
Ken Berry wrote:With the internet running, my first start-up of PSP took exactly 62 seconds (timed with a digital stop watch). After closing PSP and restarting it again, it took 20 seconds to be ready for use.

I turned the internet modem off and rebooted. Startup time without the internet was a speedy 25 seconds. A restart took 10 seconds.
Hey there,

We're looking into this problem. Thanks for pointing it out cause the internal team honestly haven't experienced this problem. During my recent conversation with Cassel, she had pointed out a noticeable lag when invoking the New Document dialog. This must be related somehow.

Best,
Neville

On my system, PSP 2018 opens after 11 seconds.
Another user had an antimalware installed and the elpased time was increased : 18 seconds.
After he desactivated his antimalware, the time was 14 seconds.
I don't have an antimalware installed.
Be sure another software doesn't interact when launching PSP.

Hi there,

A quick note that we're still looking into this. We were investigating another report concerning performance with the Brush and Eraser tools. There was another lingering color management issue that were working on with another user as well.

Hopefully, we'll find the root cause soon.

Thanks,
nev

I hope I'm not too late to join this regarding cloning on PSP 2018 Ultra and maybe get an answer.

I just cannot get the clone to work properly at all. When I click on 'Clone', it takes a second or two to actually start.
I then choose the area I want to clone (right click) and the clone circle appears.
I then go to the area to be cloned, right click and slowly move the cursor. Nothing happens for a secend, then suddenly, the clone and area circles flash across.
I just cannot control the clone at all.
Everything worked well on PSP8 Ultra, the clone was a joy to use and could be controlled to the nth degree as fast or as slowly as required.
This is really putting me off PSP2018 and I am seriously thinking of re-loading PSP8 to get back the usability (I have already mentioned the 'fit to screen problem in another forum section).
Please help get my cloning working properly
Thank you

That should be a left-click to clone after you have done the initial right-click to set the clone point. If you meant left-click, then that is not the issue.

You could try resetting the workspace by using the shift method outlined here. The instructions reference X6 but works for all versions.

Hi Kathy

Sorry, yes, I did mean left click to clone.

I did try resetting the workspace as described. Now only some things work. I can't access the left side tool menu, I can't even shut the program down. Looks like I'm going to have to do a restart of my machine just to get out of PSP 2018.

I'll come back in a short while and let you know what happens.

OK Kathy

Did a restart of my machine and all is now clear.

PSP works again ... but exactly as it did before. The clone is just awful and unusable.

Anything else I can try please?

Keith, did you by chance install Update 1? If so, please check the version number. There was a buggy version issued and it was quickly removed from Corel's server and replaced with a good version. The good version is 20.2.0.1

Yes, Kathy, I did do the update and am running V 20.1.0.15 x64.
I keep getting pop ups telling me there is an update but when I click on it and go through the procedure it always tells me, after the loader has loaded etc., that there is no update to be done.
I have just clicked on the 'search for updates' in the help tab of the program itself and it told me there was an update. I clicked on that and saved the download. I then tried to 'x' out of PSP and found that it had frozen again. Another restart of my machine to get things back to normal again.
I then, without starting any program at all, double clicked on the downloaded 'PSP2018_Update1' hoping to get the correct update installed ... but no, I got a notice stating 'PSP2018_Update1.exe is not a valid Win32 application'. How can this happen when My version is the x64 version (I did not load the x32 version at all). Surely the update is for both versions anyway.

I am really sorry but I have to log off now as it's getting on for 10.00pm here. By all means, please tell me what I can do so that I can try in the morning then I can let you know how I've got on and continue this tomorrow.

Thanks for your help so far

Have a good night and will speak tomorrow.

Keith
