CVSX10.5 New Aspect Ratio UI icon issues

Post by lata »

Hi

After installing CXSX10.5 service pack I see an icon top left of the timeline showing the 16:9 aspect ratio.
It appears to be a quick means of changing our projects aspect.
The options are also available via Project Properties – Edit tab and Movie Profile Manager, providing we have first selected/ changed the UI icon.

Pal users take care ……………..
If you have AVCHD 25fps or 50P set then changing the icon (top left timelines) will set our project properties to use 29.97fps and Mpeg4.
Clearly this is wrong as rendering our project to same as Project Properties will convert our video from Pal to Ntsc.

For NTSC users I suspect there may be some changes especially the frame rate.
I have not tested using 4K video.

So be aware that selecting that icon may / will mess up our project settings, no notification is given the changes being applied in the background.

Can anyone else confirm this unusual behaviour --- cheers

Post Updated

A few further tests revealed that the Previous Settings were being applied when using the Aspect Ratio icon. Most users will not notice the problem unless you have changed the project properties, for me I was doing tests on NTSC video.

Even so the settings should not be changed in the background without us knowing…………..

Hi Trevor

Have not fully tested or investigated, but I agree that there is some strange changes to the Project Properties when you alter the Aspect Ratio using the drop down menu at the bottom/beneath the Preview panel.
I set up a custom Project Properties of PAL AVCHD H264 1920x1080 25fps 16:9 Data Rate 18000 with Audio Dolby 48KHz 3/2 L C R SL SR.

Used the drop down menu to change from 16:9 to 4:3, then checked the Project Properties - it now read:
Online MPEG-4 1280x720 25fps H264 Data Rate 5000 4:3 Audio 128 kbps MPEG AAC 44100Hz 16 bit stereo.

Did not get the fps change with this test, but may show up under different conditions. It may be the programmers have tried to amend the Project Properties to near recognized standards, when the Aspect Ratio is changed?

I've just been playing around with this as well. I inserted a clip with these properties:
MPEG Transport-Stream Files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 29.97 fps
Upper Field First
(HDMV-NTSC), 16:9
H.264 Video
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 22699 kbps)
Audio data rate: 256 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)

When I pressed the aspect ratio button (and selected Custom), these properties changed immediately to the following, without any actual changes made by me manually:
MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 1280 x 720, 25 fps
Frame-based
H.264 Main Profile Video: 5000 Kbps
44100 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 128 Kbps

This is pretty dramatic -- and silly! I think we need to raise this pretty quickly with Corel...

Thanks Ken

I was waiting for responses from the forum, just in case it was just my pc.
I have e-mailed Corel, if you have done the same, then all the merrier

I also think the timelines are becoming slower, refreshing the timeline after zooming in / out or "fit to" takes a while.
Well a second or so, long enough to think "has the program froze"
X9 is instant when expanding the timelines. I am sure CVSX10 was ok, just 10.5

Lots of little things going wrong, now my Mpeg4 video crashes, another story...
