PSP 2018 Smart Selection Brush bug? **SOLVED**

Just installed PSP 2018 and using the Smart Selection Brush Tool locks the program every time. Is it just me or something I am doing wrong?

No locking up here with the Smart Selection Brush. Maybe try resetting the tool to default. You can do this by clicking on the Smart Selection Brush then on the Presets on the Tools Option Palette and then the Reset icon which looks like an arrow.

If that doesn't work for you then try resetting PSP to default settings. Here are some instructions. They reference PSPX6 but work for all versions.

Thank you. Okay, there is a problem. Once I make a selection with the smart selection brush, I can do NOTHING else and must use ctrl, alt delete to kill the program. I did what you said with no change. This is happening on 2 different machines. There is an issue. I am using version 20.0.0.132(b). The smart selection brush once used will not expand as it is supposed to and locks the program. Also, the help section on the right side of the screen does not change to show help for the smart selection brush.

Since resetting the workspace didn't work for you and I'm assuming you did that, you can open a support request with Corel.

Also if it is occurring on two different machines , there may be something wrong with your original download. You might try re downloading and trying a reinstall.

I got an answer back from Corel and they want a screen shot. How can I get a screen shot when the program locks and the only way I can do anything after that is to shut the program down using the task manager? I explained the problem thoroughly. They also said I was to supply my registration number which I did in the initial ticket.

First, don't expect anything sounding like really useful advice from Corel. A screenshot, for example, will provide no useful info but they always make ridiculous requests to cover up the fact that they rarely know what they're talking about.

That said, you can do a screenshot by using a third party screenshot/screen capture program.

Control Alt Print Screen works for me and copies the open window to the clipboard.

Corel got back to me and had me clear my windows cache files. Then I had to reset the program along with the program database files and that solved the problem.

Can you give step by step details on what you did as that may help others later on. Might be an idea for inclusion in a sticky on trouble shooting tips.

They could be set out in increasing order of effect
eg 1. only affects a single tool while 4 removes all traces? and then reinstalls.

1. Reset problem tool to defaults
2. Clear PSP cache files
3. Reset PSP to default
4. Uninstall , use clean up tool reinstall.
