Text On a Circle!!

Post by Muriel »

Good Morning!

I am trying my darnest to make Text on a Circle work in PSP X9. These steps work as Corel intended.
Background 400 X 400 Pixels.. Using Ellipse tool, make a circle.
Objects/Convert to Path.
Type Text
Apply

Steps for making the bottom text are making me crazy!

Click on New Ellipse Object
Objects/Edit/Reverse Contour.. GRAYED OUT!! (I understand I should place the cursor squarely on the bottom node and right click.. well, nothin' happens! I have to click directly on the Objects tool/Edit, and of course all those options are grayed out.)

I am using a tutorial that worked for Versions 8 and a few later ones, but not for Versions X4, X6 and X9. What am I missing? Doing incorrectly? Any help, suggestions, solutions are appreciated! :?

Many thanks..

Convert to Path before reversing the contour. If it's just an ellipse there is no reverse contour option. It must be a path first. And you'll need the pen tool to select a node before Reverse contour is available. Of course, since it is a single ellipse object Reverse path is sufficient.

Hello Again!

OOOh my goodness.. thank-you so much for your prompt reply:

These are the steps I am using:

Create Oval
In Layer Palette highlight Vector Layer.
Dropdown options, highlight highlight New Ellipse
Objects/Convert to Path
Add upper text
Hightlight New Ellipse
Choose pen tool
Hover cursor over bottom node
Edit/Reverse Contour

And the top text turns itself upsidedown inside the oval.

It is almost as though the top text is attached to the oval and tags along when it is reversed.

I know I am doing something very basic wrong..

Have been dealing with this for hours.. is it too early for a glass of wine???

Muriel!

With the pick tool, select the text layer. Then on the canvas, grab the text and drag the text to the bottom of the ellipse. It's essentially just dragging the text around the path.

So you're not ddoing anything wrong persay, the text follows the curve. When it goes in one direction the text is on the outside of the curve, when the curve goes in the other direction it's on the inside of the curve. It's only upside down because it's now at the top of the curve following the inside. Move it to the bottom and it'll be right-side up inside the curve.

If you need text on top and other text on the bottom, then you need to duplicate the shape/path as it cannot go in two directions for the different text segments.
