Hi John

The Mask Creator in X10 Ultimate looks useful. I think this is one area I will explore further. Whether that is worth the extra money, I can't say.

Thanks
Actually I was working out that I might actually save money if I sell VSX9 as soon as it arrives as I am getting it from USA and I can probably sell it here in Australia for much the same as I paid for it so maybe it's a "no brainer" even wondering if X10 is better than X9.

Hi John

There was a problem with the Corel server providing updates and messages, once fixed we started getting messages again, I suspect that is why you lost the message. Unfortunate timing.

The offer is the full Ultimate version but does not include Bluray burner, that will be additional (about £8)
If you can get X10 for $A32 then it’s a good deal, don’t know how they can do that?
Although X9 will do what you want ......

As for the extras, X9 to X10, I have not really compared, there is so much available.
Far too many filters and transitions that we cannot use all.

By the way the X10 download files, about 6 folders are approx. 5Gb in total, although we can download one at a time if we wished.

Thanks Trevor

I think regardless the way for me to go is to take Corel up on their offer and when I VSX9 arrives from USA I list it on Ebay. Australian sellers list it well over $100. Even if I sell it for less than what I paid ($80) it will still work out cheaper than keeping X9 and I will have the benefit of what comes with X10 even if I don't ever use the extra features.
I note that there is an upgrade available from Corel (X10.5) which has more features again.

I am now preparing for a 2.5 week driving tour of southern Wales (Brecon Beacons), Devon and Cornwall in early October - hope the weather is kind.

If you bought the DVD/BD burning module for X9, then you can go to Help and transfer that to X10...

Thanks Ken, nice to 'see' you around.

Not sure if I want the DVD burning module as I have been rendering video to 1920X1020 MPEG4 for the past 3 years since purchasing a DVD player which has a usb socket which works well.
Although I guess burning to a DVD gives the opportunity in creating a menu so maybe another time (I don't have X9 as yet and when it eventually arrives I will be selling it on (it will be a sealed package).

I have decided to 'bite the bullet' and purchase X10 Ultimate for $32. Strangely VS10Ultimate dowmloads as just a 10MB file so I am thinking that when it is run it will then download the full program?
I opted for a DVD backup (posted) at another $10 so hopefully it contains the full installation (otherwise why would they send it on a DVD and not a CD).
Also included in the 'package' comes (via download)-
NewBluePaintEffectsForWindows
AfterShot3

Seemed like a bargain.

Hi John

The file at 10Mb you downloaded is known as the Web Installer aka Stub
When you receive the disc that will also have a similar file.
As far as I know the disc does not auto run, we have to double click the Web Installer file called
VideoStudioX10_Installer.exe, or similar name.
Internet connection is required to install Video Studio.
A folder may be created on your desktop called VideoStudio, this is to hold any download files.
We can choose another location for this folder.

I would transfer all disc content to my hard drive and install from those files rather than from disc.
Also save the serial number to Notepad to save to hd folder.

Thanks Trevor

It seems maybe I have wasted $10 purchasing the disk if all it will contain is the same file as I downloaded. Oh well!

Maybe I should have opted for the 2 year something installation guaranteed instead (something about allowing X10 being installable on a different PC in case you need to change your PC - if installation via the internet checks that you haven't installed from a different PC in the past I would have thought that there would be a process to allow that anyway as can be done with WINDOWS if you have to change your motherboard.

Yes I usually copy CD/DVD contents to HD and install from that regardless as my CD/DVD drive sometimes seems to 'hunt' if attempting to install from there (you can hear the head moving in and out constantly and very very slow. I even changed the drive thinking that it was faulty without improvement).

Just an update.

Today I received the 'backup' VS10 DVD which I ordered and paid for (extra $10) when paying for X10 ultimate which only gives you a download for an application of some 10Mb in size which all it does is downloads the full version and installs it.
The backup DVD appears to contain ALL files for a complete installation as all the files amount to 7.75Gb - VS10 install application and folders named COMMON, 32BIT and 64BIT.
It only took a week to arrived from Germany.
I am very happy about that as what happens in the future if the application which downloads and installs doesn't work.
