Can't Create Video File

Post by jparnold »

I have just completed editing my last holiday video (using VS Pro X6) and when I select SHARE and then click on Create Video File VS 'hangs' (the window which normally allows selection of video template does not display) and the title bar shows that VS is (Not Responding) and then if I click anywhere inside the screen display VS crashes.
I think that I had this problem some years ago but cannot remember how I got around this problem.
Any ideas?

Re: Can't Create Video File

I have worked this one out.
I found the project properties Edit File Format was set to Microsoft AVI Files. When I changed it to MPEG files there was no problem.

I think that I had changed it to AVI when I was having trouble doing 'Take a Snapshot' and the resulting images were only 1024X 576 instead of 1920X1080 which is the format of the video files.

I have another question now.
Lately when I exit VS Pro X6 I am getting an offer to upgrade to X10 for a very reasonable price (obviously from Corel).
Will I benefit much with the upgrade when I find X6 does everything I want? Does X10 address any 'bugs' which may be in X6?

Thanks

Hi John

Search your posts :D

Try Resetting the library, you may wish to export the library first.
Try resetting the program by re-naming the folder here:-
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro

Some info on resetting here:-

In the past there were issues with Windows Updates that affected earlier programs, we did find a work-round to allow those programs to run.
But subsequent windows updates can affect those programs.
I was simply interested if John had purchased a more recent version, given the very good price options from Corel.

Hi Trevor

I currently own VS Pro X6 and the flash screen I was getting during exit was offering me version X10. All my details are listed under my username in the panel to the right.
Strangely I haven't seen the offer during the past day or two so maybe it was only on offer for a limited time.

I was just wondering is X10 a better product than X6.

Lastly have you ever seen a thread/post about fast moving objects appearing like a strobe effect across the screen. I video at 50fps (AVCHD) and when I render to MPEG4 which is at 25fps and I am wondering if that can cause problems.

Hi JP

I upgraded from X6 to X9, and it was worth it. A good upgrade, well worth it - they were both the Ultimate versions, especially the included Boris G version 7.

OK X9 Ult to X10 Ult, was OK, but not so much. There are a few issues, potentially around the 64 bit version - looking forward to X11 being stable and the flying transition problem I have being fixed together with the audio glitch. I seem to be the only one experiencing this "hang" with the transitions , reminds me of Tigger!! But, overall, good FVM.

Hi John

Thanks for that information. Currently X9 ultimate is cheaper than X10 ultimate and according to a 'comparison' on the Corel web site X10 ultimate doesn't come with much more than X9 ultimate.
I have ordered X9 Ultimate and look forward to receiving and installing it.

BUT since ordering in the special offer has reappeared when exiting VS6 and I could have upgraded to 10.5 Untimate for a miserly $32 instead of $80 what I paid for X9.
I had not seen the special offer for a couple of days and so thought that it may have expired. SOOOOOO annoyed.

Hi John

There has been a problem with the Corel server affecting updates and messages.
Seems to be fixed today as my video studio did an auto update.
I also received a deal whilst running X9 to purchase X10.5 40% off at £41.99
I then checked messages from X6 which gave me a deal to purchase X10.5 Ultimate 75% off for £21.99, even better.
Strange why the offer differed between versions.
A little annoying if you have paid more? You could contact Corel to explain the problem and difference in prices, after all if the server had been working correctly you would have taken the deal.
You could also use the 30 day money back guarantee, whether that is worth the effort is another thing?
Annoying……….

Hi Trevor,

Sorry I did not explain myself properly.
The offer at $A32 was from Corel. I purchased from an independent seller somewhere in USA (NOT Corel). If I had purchased from Corel at the more expensive price I certainly would be contacting them and complaining.

I have stopped getting the cheap offer but it doesn't matter anymore since I have now ordered.

Interesting that X6 users can upgrade for less than users of later versions. Corel's marketing must think that users with X6 don't like spending money on upgrades and are trying to entice them rather than owners of later versions.

Hi John

A bit of a learning curve running X9, the user interface has been updated quite a lot from X6, that is the first thing you are gonna see.
That is of course after installing X9 which now uses a Web Installer aka “Stub”
Internet connection is needed for installation, at least for the main program.

Leave X6 installed whilst you get familiar using X9, and if you are not sure, just ask.

Thanks Trevor,

I have just about finished editing video of my last trip (using X6) and so I will just be 'playing' with X9 at first which might be a good thing if there are noticeable changes as you suggest.

Are projects/libraries created in X6 filly transportable to X9? Or is there a guide on upgrading?

Hi John

The libraries are pretty similar layout, a few small changes.
I ran a test to import X6 library to X9 , that worked for me with no problems.
Although I am running the 32bit version of X9 and X6 is 32bit, don’t know whether the X9 64bit will be different.
I assume you would install the 64 bit version.

You can always open the X6 project using X9, first give it a new name via X6 to create a copy, you preserve the original for X6 editing, open copy in X9.

X9 Ultimate isn't due for arrival until as late as 25 September and I go away 1 October so maybe no time to check it out until November.

Hi Trevor

After a few days when the special offer for VS X10 Ultimate at $A32 was not displayed when I exited VSX6 the offer has reappeared and I am wondering if I should take up the offer and when I receive VSX9 list it on Ebay for sale (and not install it) and maybe lose a few dollars but I would still end up with VSX10 Ultimate for around $A50. The special offer states that it is a FULL version and that after download they send the serial number although somewhere else it states -
To purchase this product, you must own a previous licensed version of Corel® VideoStudio (Pro or Ultimate). Please note that upgrade eligibility excludes Academic, Home and Student, OEM and Not for Resale (NFR) versions.
Makes me wonder if it really is a FULL version although maybe during installation you need to place the CD for the other version in the CD drive for checking which I have seen before in the past.

On the Corel website is a comparison between the last few versions and VSX10 Ultimate has a number of features which VSX9 Ultimate doesn't have and I'm not sure if I would ever use them. Have you tried any of those extra features and if so are they truly useful for home videos of past trips?
