Not recognizing camera for video/stopmotion capture

My goal is to make stop motions unfortunately I keep getting the error message "Either no video capture driver is installed in this system or no device is connected" for both the video capture tab and stop motion tab.

I have a dslr Nikon D3400 connected via USB. I do only have the trial version of video studio x10 pro but I've tried this on both my desktop (windows 7) and laptop (windows 10) and get the same error message. So I'm coming to the conclusion that it's either the program or the camera. Both computers recognize the camera just fine, just not videostudio.

Please help, I'm about to go buy dragonframe and I don't want to if I don't have to (works on their trial version).

If you check the VideiStudio spec, you will find that Corel only support the following:
Stop motion supported DSLR devices
Canon EOS-1Ds Mark III, EOS-1D Mark IV, EOS-1D Mark III, EOS 1D X, EOS 5D Mark III, EOS 5D Mark II*, EOS 7D*, EOS 40D, EOS 50D*, EOS 60D*, EOS 60Da*, EOS 650D/Rebel T4i, EOS 600D/Rebel T3i, EOS 1100D/Rebel T3, EOS 550D/Rebel T2i, EOS 500D/Rebel T1i, EOS 450D/Rebel XSi, EOS 1000D/Rebel XS, EOS-1D C, EOS 6D, EOS M

So if you want to use VS for StopMotion then buy a decent HD webcam. You will find it works perfectly. I use a "Lysignal Full HD Webcam" from Amazon. I had exactly the same problem with my Olympus E-10. Incidentally the VS StopMotion is very good, quite controllable and provides such "nice to have's" such as the Onion Skin effect. I normally set to 5 frames per shot and find that looks OK.
I suspect that Corel have stuck with Canon because, included in the StopMotion option, are controls for the range of Canon cameras.
Corel VideoStudio mimics the camera viewfinder and gives you quick access to DSLR features and settings If they included the control interface for other DSLRs they may run into license problems.

So go for a webcam it works well.

We do not work for Corel so cannot really help with the supported cameras.
You should contact Corel Support and explain the problem.
Other Corel programs Aftershot etc. support a variety of cameras, I see no reason why Video Studio cannot support other cameras..

I own a Canon and can see the camera using Video Studio, certainly if I had a Nikon I would be badgering Corel, and if it means loosing a sale they should listen.

Maybe you should add this to the wishlist for X11.
If Corel support a range of manufacturers in other of their programmes then it may not be too much of a problem to add to VS.
Corel are clear about the cameras they do support and this is limited to the Canon range. I do not have a problem with using a DSLR for stop motion as I find that webcams work just as well. The main advantage is that they are lighter than a DSLR and do not create any vibration during shooting.
Mine is mounted on a macro copy stand and I can control the stop motion with a wireless touchpad.

I contacted Corel regarding the Camera support with this reply.

In X10.5, we planned to add Nikon camera support to stop motion, however, due to resource and time, we push it later.
So, I would say that we would support Nikon camera in X11 defintely.

Nikon D3400, I will check if this is on our list. If you have other Nikon camera preferred working with stop motion, let me know.

I searched the forum and found several other users with different cameras,
Nikon D3400, NIkon D700, Nikon D3000, Nikon D3100, details passed to Corel.

I Googled your camera and noticed it used Timelapse, are you able to use that to simulate Stop Motion by setting a long frame rate?
