PSP 2018 Screenshot function grayed out
I've never had this happen for any version of PSP I've owned, but the screenshot function is grayed out. There's also not another window to setup screenshots. Anyone know how to fix this? They had me reset the program, but like usual tech support is useless for everything.

First, you might want to read this thread and see if anything there is of help to you:
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... screenshot
That said, I've started using a free program called Greenshot Shot Recorder, which gets 4.8 out of 5 ratings from 173 reviews on Sourceforge. IMHO, it's a fantastic program for taking screenshots from any program - full screen, window with titlebar, window contents only, complete web page - at least Internet Explorer (not just the part you can see on your screen), and a custom selectable portion of a screen. It can save your screenshot to a file, the clipboard, an assigned folder, the desktop, or send to a printer, other programs like Word, or various photo sites. Can choose to set preferences to capture cursor or not. Uses hotkeys and can also sit on your task bar. Very small footprint. I find it way more flexible than any other free screenshot program, and fast and easy to use regardless of what program or window you want to capture from. You can get it from the Greenshot site here:

Re: PSP 2018 Screenshot function grayed out
If I go to the Welcome screen I can click "Screenshot" and it will show me the "Setup" and "Start" options, but they are grayed out. Tech support had me cleanup and then reinstall the program, but that didn't do anything. I don't know if there's now some super secret thing I have to click before I can get those options or what. I don't see anything in preferences.

Not sure what you mean by the "Welcome screen." Are you talking about the Edit tab/Edit workspace? The Welcome screen is a popup with info about Corel, PSP, links to stuff, etc.Wraith_3 wrote:If I go to the Welcome screen I can click "Screenshot" and it will show me the "Setup" and "Start" options,....
As far as I know there isn't anything in Preferences needed to have Screenshot show in your File menu. If you checked out the link I provided you'll know that for most of us it just appears there by default, not greyed out, and the settings aren't greyed out either. So don't have any idea why a few people might have this issue.Wraith_3 wrote: ... but they are grayed out. Tech support had me cleanup and then reinstall the program, but that didn't do anything. The Welcome screen is new to PSP2018. It's not actually a pop-up but a screen that has a symbol of a house on it's tab.JoeB wrote: Not sure what you mean by the "Welcome screen." Here is a partial screen snip of the Welcome screen showing File -> Screenshot -> and the grayed out menu items.
One would think that a screenshot tool should work on all screens where it is listed as a menu item but I can't say for certain what Corel's intent is. Personally, I don't use it as I prefer the Windows snipping tool or just hitting print screen and copying into PSP.
Joe - looks like you have 2018. Do you see the same thing or are those menu items available on your Welcome screen?

They are grayed out on my Welcome/Home screen too, but active in Edit. I too don't use them, preferring another screen grab program I have been using for years.

Re: PSP 2018 Screenshot function grayed out
OK, I see what you're talking about. I just don't see the Welcome screen because I set my preferences to open in Edit, not the Welcome screen so I forgot it existed. Not sure why anyone would want that to be the default screen when opening PSP but to each his/her own.Kathy_9 wrote:The Welcome screen is new to PSP2018. Re: PSP 2018 Screenshot function grayed out
As mentioned above, so do I. I tried Screenshot once in an attempt to take a screenshot of my workspace with an open image and the cursor to emphasize a post I was going to attach to this forum, and instead it changed to the window of the last program I had active prior to making PSP active. I imagine I could do a prtscr and paste, then crop to what I wanted, but it's much easier to use Greenshot's shortcut to select what I want in advance - and I don't think prtscr captures the cursor, which is important much of the time. And I can use the same program for screenshots from within any program, which is a plus of course.Ken Berry wrote:They are grayed out on my Welcome/Home screen too, but active in Edit. Ok I found it! I was still looking under Import (screenshot is there under Manage) and completely missed that it's separate now. So I'm all good. Thanks for trying to help!

That's weird. I don't have any thing at all for screenshot on the Edit tab. The tech support guy said to do that to, but it's not there. I've tried "Run as Administrator" as well, but no change. I think the tech support guy is clueless as well. It might be because it's new though.

Re: PSP 2018 Screenshot function grayed out
I honestly don't have an answer then, and I doubt anyone else has. It would seem to be something wrong with your installation but why that would be is beyond me.
Again, you might want to consider a third party screenshot program. At least it would have the advantage that you could use it within not only PSP but any other program you might use. Just a suggestion, at least until you might get this sorted out. And even then you won't be able to use PSP's screenshot within other programs unless you have PSP activated first.

So are you saying that in the "Edit tab" you don't have a screenshot item under the file menu?
(Please refer to the attached screenshot blue square) If you don't have that.....it's indeed weird.....

Hi ericlin-corel,
Your posted image I think shows the Manage mode (File, View, Help) and not edit mode.
I also do not have Screenshot there. Instead down at Import I have Screen Capture but greyed out.
Switching to Edit mode I do have Screenshot there as you display.
Could it be that you have an inhouse updated version of PSP 2018 whereas most of us have the Beta version first released to early takers.

Sorry to make you confused; in order to make a quick reply, I used kathy's screenshot in earlier reply. (that is in Home tab, not manage tab)
Here I attached the screenshot I just did. (Edit tab)
Also, I used the same GM build to verify this issue. (version: 20.0.0.132)
In summary, my status: (Both Essential and Complete mode)
In home tab: screencapture item show but sub option (Setup/ Start) grayed out.
In Manage tab: screencapture item Not Show. (this is expected.)
In Edit tab: screencapture item show and sub option (Setup/ Start) NOT grayed out.
Thank you.

Re: PSP 2018 Screenshot function grayed out
Thanks for confirmation Eric Lin,
Some of us get a bit picky here.
Just an add
Manage Mode
Import > Screen Capture is there and greyed out. Perhaps needs to be tidied up .
Wraith_3 was not clear at first what mode they were working in.
But after the second post it appeared to be in Edit mode however what was still not clear was if it was Edit Complete or Edit Essentials.
Both of which show full functioning of File > Screenshot in my version.
