VS X10 Ult No Burner Exists

Post by GrifsGrif »

New to VS X10 Ultimate and am trying to burn a disc and/or an ISO on a very short test slide show to a R/W DVD to avoid wasting discs if I get it wrong..

Problems at the burn a disc final sections; included not able to change new file name and then when trying to burn a disc or an ISO I get the message "No Burner Exists". After Serif's offering of a similar nature, Video Studio seems unduly complicated and laborious .

In fact I gave up Video Studio 3 for Serif because I was unable to select my own background music and had to put up with that provided by Corel. Lucky I've got a 30 day money back offer.

I'm an Octogenarian but moderately IT proficient. I'm hoping that somebody can help as I bought Vid Studio X10 Pro as an improvement on the Serif application. May I offer thanks in anticipation. I still think Word perfect is the world's best word processor!

Hi

And welcome to the forums

You mention VSX10 as your post title, can I assume you are indeed running the purchased version of X10 and not the Trial version.

First the “No Burner Exists” message.
If you deselect Create to Disc and check Create Disc Image does that create the ISO.

And were you saying that Serif gave a similar error message?
I do not know Serif so cannot comment there.

In fact I gave up Video Studio 3 for Serif because I was unable to select my own background music and had to put up with that provided by Corel. Lucky I've got a 30 day money back offer.

You have up to 8 music tracks in X10 Ultimate and you can put any music in any track.
If it is for private consumption (i.e. no copyright concerns) I usually strip a suitable track off a CD and use that. I try to select a track that has a similar length to the video but X10 allows you to stretch or compress the track to fit. This does not affect the pitch of the music (as it is digital) but will slow down or speed up the piece. A small change in track length will hardly be noticeable.
So you can introduce any music into X10 you like and you are not tied to the music they supply. The only advantage of using their system is that, once you have edited the video, the chosen music will fit the video length directly. There are a few CDs with copyright free music on them and some web sites also supply. See Eric Matyas's web site.

I have not burnt to a DVD for a while but I always render to a file on my PC using the top option in "Share", I then burn to DVD from that file or download to a SD card. I can use VS X10 to do this or I can use an external programme such as Nero. I usually render to AVC/H.264, save on a SD card and replay using my Blu-Ray player.
The advantage is that, once you have saved to a file, you can check the video before burning to DVD. Obviously you can render to a file on your PC as many times as you like before putting the video onto a disk. Example:- I have a projector that will not accept Dolby sound so I render twice, one for my BR player with Dolby and a second file with LPCM Audio for the projector.

VS is very flexible and versatile, you just need to persevere.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Thanks Trevor

Yes, all paid for. The problem is all Vid Studio X10 Ult. I'm sure that the same "no burner" problem existed for both Disc and ISO. Further it appeared that the decision regarding file name and destination had been made for me by X10 and I could not get into the box for destination and file name.

Haven't had time to fully digest the other replies so please give me a little time as there are some disadvantages to being an Octogenarian - only just"!

Thanks for the replies, hope for more, best wishes

Thanks Tervyn - change the n to an "l" and we have one of my favourite bass/baritones.

The Music Problem was with Vid Studio 3. I did try hard to get rid of the imposed music track to no avail. I was only about 75 then. I did produce mp3 & mp4 files when first using VS X10 Ultimate last week but I've failed to create a disc from the MPeg tracks using long time friend and highly reliable CD Burner XP. I just get a set of files that can't be read and when I tried using Win Media app it said I had a blank disc.

Thanks lata

Yes all mine fully paid for. No problems with serif apart from, I thought hopefully that Vx 10 Pro Ultimate would be more advance and allow me to perform tricks like flying birthday cakes piling up, more realistically than in the Serif app.

I've been unable to burn a disc or an ISO from the start although it did appear to do the rendering early on - not even that now. I'm a lot disappointed.

GrifsGrif,

could you describe step-by-step exactly what you are doing. I still don't exactly understand what you are doing.

Funny you should say that. Sir Bryn Terfel Jones was born just up the road from us and is related to our next door neighbour.

Can you render your videos to a file on your PC and, if so, will they play back? Can you burn to DVD using another programme such as Nero?

Hi

Can you check the burner module again, use any files, on the last window deselect
Create to Disc,
then select Create Disc Image.

Does that report that no burner exists

DVD Burner re DVD Player

Are you sure you have a DVD Writer installed on your pc and not a DVD Player
What version / type of DVD/CD rom drive do you have installed?

Hi will do my best to respond to all suggestions and questions

1) Points of interest: VS X10 Fully paid for about 12 days ago as an upgrade from VS 3 purchased around 2012 and on my PC still - checked if upgrade OK - Yes. Just after installing VS X10 a note from MS appeared re restarting PC to allow an update to work - PC went down could not get to Windows, Win 7 disc got rolling but stopped at crucial point to say incompatibility - thought Win 7 in ruins. Eventually got into BIOS to find that HDD order had been changed so CD was looking at 3TB HDD 2 and not 2TB HDD 1 with Win 7 on it - time display also changed. Now all seems OK.

2 All 3 DVD's are Read & Write and have and still work with Serif directly and with CD Burner XP still and for many years past. Found that a video on the trial download in Mpeg mode worked today on my PC and TV having been "copied" to DVD via CD Burner XP onto a R/W DVD to avoid wasting disc - this happened a few times with trial version.

3. Opened VSP file and saved under changed name. Opened again and SHARED tried DISC - got to final screen and clicked burn DVD and then Burn ISO to find I could reach browse and change disc/file name. Clicked BURN to get NO BURNER EXISTS. Please see Image.

4 Went back to file - edit and clicked computer icon and MP4 then START to be told file "might be write protected". Went to file in Win Explorer and changed permission to give, I think, blanket permissions to all - please see file properties images.

I hope I've answered your questions - may I re-install or repair using the "Video Studio Install.exe" app in my VS X10 folder - I have a C:\ drive for system and a D:\ drive for applications to keep them separated.

Hope I've given all the information needed, Thanks again. Hope you can read the images I changed to 72 ppi and Jpeg Q 6 for transmission.

Hi

There was an issue with Nero and InCD, that program took control of the Disc Drive with the program always running in the background, seemingly hiding the drive from other programs.
Uninstalling InCd cured that and allowed other programs to access the DVD Drive.

I wonder if Serif is doing the same?
You should look at the Device Manager to see if Serif is running, maybe starts in the background when Windows starts.

Thanks Iata

I've had a look at Task Manager and quite a lot of apps are running but cannot see Serif. Have switched a few others off, hope I've not screwed things up. Need to be quite well versed to understand Task Manager but definitely no Serif under any of the headings. I've also checked Device Manager - nothing there re - Serif.

I think I'll try re-installing or if possibly repairing the installation. Just cannot understand why the file to be rendered should be read only or write protected. First time ever that has happened in this context.

Thanks also to other suggestions which as an octogenarian I'm taking time to assimilate. Realised I like knowing that I'm an Octogenarian even if only just. Roll on Nano thingumabob.

Best wishes and thanks to all

To all of you kind forum members who've attempted to help with my "No Burner" problem and my "File may be write protected" problems, deep and heartfelt thanks.

I've now "re-installed" VS X10 Ultimate, quite quick really, opened the last file to be created to be told when sharing - No Burner when attempting create a disc and File may be Write Protected when Starting to create an MP4 file.

Where do I go from here, beyond comprehension, so I think its a case of applying 30 day money back guarantee. See what happens in the next few days.
