File Association Assignments Broke?

Post by vpnavy »

1. After installing 2018 - I immediately went to FILE -> PREFERENCE -> FILE FORMAT ASSOCIATION and selected files.

2. When I go through my Windows7 Explorer and tap on one of the files I associated with 2018 (i.e., JPG, etc.) it doesn't open. Yet, if I go through PSP 2018 (FILE -> OPEN) it works fine. Unfortunately, that isn't the normal way I open a file.

3. I go into Windows7 File Association Selection and noticed that many of the files have no program assigned. I get...

EXTENSION NAME: .JPG
DESCRIPTION: PAINTSHOP PRO 2018
CURRENT DEFAULT: UNKNOWN APPLICATION

4. If I go through those and "manually" select PaintShop Pro 2018 - it holds. But OMG - that takes forever!

5. I also noticed that many of my graphic extensions are still assigned to older versions of PaintShop Pro (i.e., PSP X9, etc.)

Any suggestions? Can I "uninstall" all the older versions? I have never had this happen.

HELP!

UPDATE: I found a way in Windows7 to set "default programs" to open all files that it can and set it to 2018 - all seems to work fine now.
