I have been given some video footage taken on a mobile phone in the portrait window so it is poor viewing in 16 x 9 but it is too late to obtain landscape footage
Is it possible in VS X10 to somehow zoom into this footage (which does play on the timeline already) and cause it to fill the window in the correct proportions?
I do understand there would be significant loss of resolution and some cutting from top and bottom of picture but I think that may be preferable to the large black (or coloured) side bands currently seen
Thanks in advance for any useful comments

I think the "crop filter" is what you want. Tick its filled color off; play with it to see how it works

Add the video/image to the overlay track and then zoom in until the image fills the window.
A lot of video shown on TV news is taken by users in the portrait mode. When shown on TV it is not cropped or zoomed but some background is used. In my view this is better then zooming or cropping which loses detail and image quality.

And the 10.5 update now has an extra function which accepts and allows editing of smartphone video taken in portrait (9:16) mode...

Thanks for both replies, I used Canuck's advise and it worked well, even changing position a tad to keep things central
There was only about 30 seconds of a train arrival at the end of the trip, taken by our pickup driver
The rest is all full HD so I can survive this tacked on the end
