Error - Unable to open the file

Post by talkingaddiction »

It seems all of the PSP files I created on August 17, will not re-open to continue work. When attempting to open them, program running already or not, I get the error message: "Unable to open the file. Please verify that the file is valid." I really, really do not want to re-create all of them. One in particular took a lot of detail work. Any suggestions, ideas, tips...help? I've never posted in a forum before, so let me know any info you need.

Do you mean upload here? I tried. This is the message I received on the upload tab - "The extension pspimage is not allowed."

So, I guess I cannot...LoL

You should try zipping the file, provided it is small enough it will/may attach to your post
Otherwise you should use a sharing site, Google drive, one drive etc

Here is my attempt to upload as a zip file. I am finding this problem with more and more files. I am beginning to wonder if my computer goes into sleep while PSPX9 is open, even though I have auto save on, if that is some how messing up the file. I have run into a couple of more on different dates that when I attempt to open, crash the program entirely.

It worked. Thanks lata

I tried opening the FBProfile.pspimage file & PSP also told me that it's not a valid PSP file. It did not crash PSP X8.2

Thanks TimW - this one does not crash the program, just gives the error. This one will crash it if open. If program is not open it will open program then say an error occurred and it needs to close. This problem is with a different date. The only changes I have made since then is putting the laptop on power saving - screen and sleep. I have since disabled sleep. Hoping this fixes the problem.

That one is too large apparently. I can upload and share link from a cloud service. Which one is preferred. The file size is 980 KB

Any one that is (a) willing to accept a file that size, and (b) doesn't require us to log in or anything like that to be able to download the image.

Google Drive doesn't seem to have a problem with the size. Here is link - set to no sign in required; access and edit. Thanks. Definitely curious to see if this crashes anyone else's. As a side note, I did do a deep scan and check each file for virus or malware. No issues. Have even had HP tech support in the depths of my system looking for issues or problems. Nothing.

When I try to open in X7 to 2018 I get the error message but no crash. When I try to open in Irfanview it tells me that the file has no bitmap data and that Irfanview can't open PSP vector files. The thumbnail of the file, however, does show in Windows Explorer (Windows 8.1). That's all the info I have and I don't have an answer to why that is happening.

Don't you have a previous version of PSP you can work with for now if you're starting other work?

Also, when you did save these files, what options for saving them in .pspimage format did you choose?

Also again, are they actually vector files as Irfanview reported to me, or was that just an error on the part of Irfanview?

Also, did you turn off power saving mode just in case? I work on a desktop and don't know the peculiarities that might (or might not) show up with some laptops or if it makes any difference. However, if this only started with files you worked on after enabling power saving mode then it can't hurt to turn it off and see if you get the same results.

Yes, I have previous versions.

See the attachment for the screen shot of my save options

I use multiple layers - vector, raster, mask, adjustment

Yes. Disabled the power save mode prior to starting this new project. I have saved, closed, shut down, turned on, reopened with no problem. The issue tends to be the next day. Fingers crossed for now that there are no issues. If there are, then I will try a previous version.

When you choose a Save option like you are doing (saving as .pspimage), there are several button on the right of that dialogue box. In the image you posted you'll see Options as the bottom button. It was the settings you were choosing after clicking that Options button I was interested in.
