Color Change Question

I use Paint Shop Pro X9 64 bit. I did a invert on the right picture and erased some of the background color. But when I copy and paste as new selection, the paint seen on the left appears. What am I doing wrong here? Appreciate any suggestions.

Why are you using paste as new selection? Have you tried paste as new layer?

Would also help to know what you are trying to do.
Are you wanting to erase that area in white to make it transparent so you can then paste the remainder (Flaming eagle??) into another image ? or as a new image?

Found my problem: If I use *Paste As New Selection*, I get the gold texture. If I use *Paste As New Layer*, I get correct texture. Thank all.
