Re: VideoStudio X10.5 Update
Despite earlier thoughts to stay away from X10.5 for a while, curiosity got the better of me so I tried downloading
First I tried from the pop up that came whilst using the program - that didn't load anything on clicking the "Download" button, so I followed advice to download from the Corel site - that worked
All seemed simple enough but there are some issues The program takes 3 times the original rapid loading to open and then when one tries to open a project it is also somewhat slower
The clips are thrown up on the timeline with reasonable speed, complete with all thumbnails in one hit where the thumbnails used to plod along from beginning to end at their own pace
I note the sound wave files are not applied at this point, so that is unchanged
But that is when I notice the real difference:
It seems X10.5 is still loading things "behind the scene" as try to do anything much and it just sits for what appears a long while, then catches up, follows the instructions given and starts work
I liked the previous loading approach as I could at least understand the program was working on something that was visible and not just frozen
So - is this a glitch or is what I am seeing the intended outcome of "refinement"?
Everything seems to work after this initial "sleep in"
Are others experiencing similar happenings?

Re: VideoStudio X10.5 Update
VideoStudio X10.5 Update HAS PROBLEMS. After updating a working version of X10 Ultimate on a Win 7 pro 64bit machine with the X10.5 update I can no longer burn DVDs or create ISO images. How do I roll back this problematic X10.5 update back to version X10 Ultimate?

Re: VideoStudio X10.5 Update
Hi tturgeon
And welcome to the forums
The way to remove the update is unfortunately to re-install the program.
You could try System Restore to a point before SP install, I have to say I woulod re-install.
Did you download the service pack or allow the program to automatically download install.
There is an issue for some with the auto update, shows that there is an update, indicates that it is downloading, then nothing, service pack does not get installed.
OK
Before re-installing try resetting the program by renaming the 20.0 folder
To “20.0_old”
Starting VS will generate a new folder.

Skipper, sorry I missed your earlier post, yes the problem of auto install is still a problem, Corel are aware, I think an issue with their servers.
I cannot comment on X10.5, I did install earlier but did not have any issues, re-installed and now no 10.5, I do not wish to manually install.

Re: VideoStudio X10.5 Update
About manual service pack/upgrade installs . .
Trevor,
I know you normally recommend using the check for updates option from the program, but for years I manually checked for updates, then downloaded them from the support site and installed OK in every version since VS11. Provided they were installed in sequence, especially after a re-install of the main software, I never had an issue with that. But I appreciate the program doing any checking for me, and I've used this method lately. Don't really understand why you prefer the program approach, as to me they are both equally effective.
But in this case, there is clearly something amiss with the check for updates method: why it seems to not do anything in more than a few cases isn't reported on, but the manual method as a successful alternative has been. So I used the manual approach (download, and then install without running VS) for the 10.5 upgrade, as have several others, and it worked fine.

Re: VideoStudio X10.5 Update
Hi David
If we install manually we could install in the wrong order or try to install a pack twice, easy to do, that will give that warning of version not being determined. The auto approach overcomes that, Then if all used auto updates we would not get posts complaining of that error.
Sometimes Corel has combined SP’s into one, (especially when doing the 10.5 updates), so earlier packs are not required, in some cases Corel have removed earlier packs from the download link, but users may have already downloaded those.
X8 comes to mind where Corel had to release another SP to fix the previous SP, and not being satisfied in that mistake did it again.
All in all the auto option should do it correctly.
There is a problem with auto updates for X10 service packs, I am unsure if that has been corrected.
Ok
I was testing an Audio Blip issue for one of the forum users, Corel provided me with a hot fix, when I applied it my X10 did not run, Corel then said the fix is for X10.5, as yet that service pack had not been released, however Corel provided me with a link for X10.5 prior to official release.
So I manual installed 10.5, Unfortunately Audio blips still a problem…………
Then SP 10.5 was released to all users with various complaints regarding installation.
I decided to Re-install the program and allow the auto update to do its thing, and hopefully will fix the Audio blip issue.
But no go, I could not install X10.5 even checking for updates did not complete correctly.
Yesterday the Check for updates seemed to work and started to download the files correctly.
Being surprised I cancelled the installation so I can recheck the Auto option again. (silly me)
That failed again, I was unable to auto install.
I decided on a re- install of the program, knowing there are a few versions of the Web Installer I downloaded from Corel web site, yes the latest file has been updated.
(should allow you to choose an installation folder- if it works?)
Running that to download the files also provided Service Pack 10.5
Everything installed ok including SP X10.5.
As for the auto installation of packs on existing programs, I don’t know if that works or not.
My findings yesterday seemed to indicate something has changed, of course Corel are aware of the issues.
But it has to work automatically, not all users know to download the packs.
I opt to use Auto approach simply to check that function.

Opening X10.5 projects using X10
Hi
David this may be of interest to you given that you share projects
After installing X10.5 any project will not open using X10
Treat the project as backward compatible and save for X9, then it will open using X10.
at least that's my findings.....

Re: VideoStudio X10.5 Update
Hi Trevor,
Thanks for thoughts re upgrade. Ordinarily, Service packs or updates are so infrequent that using a manual approach has not been a problem, nor would it be for any IT literate person who appreciates that sp1 comes before sp2, or 2 lots of sp2 would cause problems. For the main population, the program approach is both easy and covers that sequence issue - unless it breaks. Unfortunately installation and updates are the first line of customer service, and instances like the issue reports for broken updating to x10.5 go a long way to damaging user confidence in the product.
As I recall, the vsp issue with X10 versus X10.5 had surfaced in one of the prior versions: I got burned by it. Tho why that incompatibility within a version should be the case is inexplicable . . . .

Has anyone the same probelm?

Re: VideoStudio X10.5 Update
Since installing 10.5 I've encountered a really challenging problem. I now find it during the editing process after about a 10 minute mark I start to lose safe with the audio. I've gone through the forum and the information I find relates to the camera using variable bit rate.
The interesting thing is though I've been using this videostudio product since version 8 and have never encountered this problem using the same camera. Does anybody have any thoughts or solutions other than transcoding everything you come from the camera into a constant bit rate through some kind of software like handbrake?
Thank you any replies to be appreciated.

Re: VideoStudio X10.5 Update
Hi
The reason you may not have encountered audio out-of-sync problems with the camera(phone?) footage before in VS is likely because of the lighting under which the original footage has been shot. In poor light, the camera may adjust (slow down) the FRAME rate to compensate for poor lighting. So, if you do not want to convert to fixed frame rate, post shooting, you will need to reshoot the footage, making sure you have good, proper, adequate lighting. My opinion.
