VideoStudio X10.5 Update

Post by lata »

Service Pack X10.5 is available from Video Studio Updates
https://www.videostudiopro.com/en/suppo ... sion-tab=0

Although I would think the program will prompt us to install this patch.

Sigh!! I downloaded the update pack, but when I tried installing it, I got the following error:
VS 10_5 error.jpg
I tried Retry a few times, but the message kept repeating itself. Then I chose Ignore. The installation proceeded and finished. But then I found X10 would no longer work. I ran the update again, but with the same result. Instead of having the Corel VS icon on my desktop, the icon is now blank.

Given the nature of the message, I thought I might try deleting vstudio.exe and running the update again. But Delete was refused, saying that it required Administrator permission. I am of course Administrator for this computer.

So it looks as though a full Uninstall/Reinstall will be necessary. Sigh!

EDIT: I have X10 on another computer running Win 10 Pro. I opened it and ran Check for Updates. That took a few minutes, but came up with the 10.5 update. I pressed Download Update and gave it plenty of time to download the 102 MB update. (I have a fast internet connection and downloading it direct from the videostudiopro.com website took only a minute.) But 10 minutes after that, nothing appeared and no update process was started which seems very strange. I closed X10 and got the Download Update Now message again. But again nothing happened. There is no trace of the update in File Explorer.

So I went to videostudiopro.com and downloaded it direct. On that computer it installed without problem, giving me version X10.5.0.60.

One immediate "problem" with the new version is that the preview screen is set by default to show the vertical smartphone screen fix installed as part of the update. I will need to look into how to change this to normal view when I have a few moments spare... In this image you can just make out the slightly darker black outline of the smartphone portrait view.

Wow! Then no point in me trying to download till they fix this problem. I have enough issues dealing with a program that works :D

I might just wait a while, VSX10 states no updates available, and I really don't want to stuff up my system just now

That's interesting in itself that your X10 did not find the update, yet mine did... though it took nearly five minutes to do so. I just left it churning. But then, as I said above, when I started the download, nothing happened.

Now I am in the middle of the problem of trying to get rid of the non-working version of what I have on my editing computer. The Removal tool says it can't find the program and the Windows Uninstall routine removed everything except that troublesome vstudio.exe file which continues to tell me I require Admin permission to remove it. Ditto when I tried to rename it.

Aha! I rebooted the computer and now can remove that file. Now for a reinstall... Interestingly enough, when I started it, Update pack 10.5 is now included in the listed contents.

X10 seems cursed by this sort of thing. I had enough trouble even getting it installed in a custom folder, eventually did (posts late may), and later wondered when the 10.5 patch talked about by Corel in late May would see light of day (posts late july). Now this.

But I checked my X10 (10.1.0.14) running on windows 7 for updates after reading this thread, and it said 'there are no updates available'. It's been over 3 hours since the initial issues were reported - could Corel have pulled the update after reports of these problems came in? Or is it a windows version-related problem?

I doubt it on both scores. I did a full download, including standard contents 1 & 2, Bonus Contents, and the 10.5 update from the Corel site for my main editing computer, and all is now well on that. It runs Win 10 Home, and as I said above, VS running on Win 10 on my other machine told me the update was there and waiting, though nothing happened when I tried downloading it. Yet RobertOZ's Win 10 machine tells him the opposite... So it doesn't appear to be an OS problem...

But I also don't think Corel has pulled the update since I can still access it on videostudiopro.com and from the full download I did in the last couple of hours. Given the time differences, I also doubt that anyone in Corel would have seen my posts about problems as yet, let alone reacted to them in this way.

Happily, though, I have just found a way to get the preview screen on the other computer to show a normal view and not the Smartphone portrait mode it showed after installing the X10.5 update. I simply opened an old project and that opened in normal view, and now that seems to have stuck.

VS X10 told me that the 10.5 update was availabe but when I clicked on the download nothing happened; perhaps didn't wait long enough.

I then used trevors download link. DOwnload was fine and the install also. VS X10 has now been updated to 10.5.60 and works perfectly. VS now tells me that no updates are available.

BTW, I did the download and update 7 hours ago.

I too see the update available on the Corel downloads site, despite what the 'check for updates' function says, but given the wide variance in responses reported so far, I'll wait a bit before updating.

My X10 also said "no updates available", so used Trevor's link to downlod. This completed the update without problems.

On opening X10 the Preview screen was like Ken's, showing 9:16; to change I used the drop down menu positioned bottom left of the Preview Panel.

Maybe I've been fortunate. X10.5 loaded correctly and, to date, has not shown any errors outlined above. So it does work for some PC configurations.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Hi Guys

Corel have added new aspect to use with our project
The new aspects 16:9 , 9:16, 4:3, 2.:1 and Custom can be changed via Project Properties
The options are also available via Movie Profile Manager.

To the lower left of the preview screen is a new icon ( drop down menu) giving easy access to these aspects.
Take care selecting these will change your project settings without notification, you would have to go back to f6 Project Properties to reset.

You will also receive a message to provide feedback on the program, not done that so far?

I do not see anything else that has changed

Oh, if you try to open a X10.5 project using X10, it will not open, first save project as X9.
