Apologies if this appears elsewhere, but I can't find it
I've spent a long time using VS X2 - with good success - making DVDs that are anything from 60 minutes to 2 hours and 20 mins long, however I can't get that with X9..... any ideas as to why? Original film is SD, shot on Sony HDR-HC1E and imported as DV files. All kept on separate hard drives, away from music, photos etc. In the past there were a few options, and at worst I think I used the "16:9 Standard Quality" option and this allowed me to fit the films to DVD. Suddenly all the options on X9 leave the disc way short of space and burning at the Mpeg2 option gives a finished DVD of only 96 minutes with a 'blocking' type issue. Sound seems poor as well, tho I accept that may be the playback machine as I've had different results on different playbacks.
I'd appreciate being pointed in the right direction if possible as even tho I can use Bluray, not everyone wants their project set to that media.
PC is Windows 7, 4Gb RAM if that's of any use to any fixes. I believe the software is up to date as well.
CVSX12 aka VS2 was I think the last version to allow us, the user to fully manage our project properties.
After VS12 the movie template settings were modified leaving us with default templates, it took away the ability to manually set templates leaving us with presets.
So that may be the reason for your issues.
But we can modify the default templates sufficiently for our needs.
The data rate of our MPEG2 template controls the quality and size of our file.
A DVD holds 4.3 Gb of data, we have to create a MPEG2 video lower than 4.3 Gb
As a guide….
At 8000kbps will allow 75 minutes of video to disc, providing we use Digital Dolby audio.
6000kbps will allow for 90 minutes
4000kbps will allow for 120minutes
Your project properties will be set to DV-Avi to match your video file.
Similar to:-
Microsoft AVI files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 16:9, 25 fps
Lower Field First
DV Video Encoder -- type 1
DV Audio -- PAL, 48.000 kHz, 16 Bit, Stereo
Go to share – mpeg2
The default option will use 8000kbps allowing 75 minutes.
Press the “+” symbol will create a new template, first give is a new name ( my DVD 90 minutes)
General tab – Frame type should be Lower Field
Compression tab – Video Data rate to 6000kbps for a 90 minute video.
Similar to:-
MPEG files
24 bits, 720 x 576, 25 fps
Lower Field First ( use Lower for DV source video)
(DVD-PAL), 16:9
Video data rate: Variable (Max. 6000 kbps)
Audio data rate: 384 kbps
Dolby Digital Audio, 48 KHz, 2/0(L,R)
There are bit rate calculators free on the internet, will help in finding the date rate V video duration.
Once you have rendered the project to a new MPEG2 at 4 Gb you can play the video to check quality.
To burn a disc, start a new project, nothing in the timeline
Share DVD
Add video files choosing the Mpeg2
Oh
Before rendering above.
Go to Preferences (F6) Edit Tab – set Best for Resample Quality
I do not know what workflow you use to burn your discs, but
1 / Edit your projects
2 / render project to output file
3 / use output file to burn disc
To burn a DVD use Mpeg2
To create HD or Burn a BD use AVCHD to create a m2t file
Your Field order should be Lower Field.
Oh the settings above assume using Pal for NTSC 720 x 480 x 29.97 will be used
Which do you use, where are you in this big wide world? ok got it Dudley UK
