Need to render a project(edited) again?
VSX9.20 min DVD.Due to various circumstances, after an initial viewing by others I will need to put background music on and most likely edit the video. The DVD will have some small audio files on it.What is the best way to do this. Can I save the project some where else before render and then do the necessary after the DVD has been authored, will I have to import the DVD into a new project or what.

You can't change a physical DVD after it has been burnt, if it is not right just throw it away
open your original project and make the changes and burn a brand new DVD
open your original project and make the changes and burn a brand new DVD

Re: Need to render a project(edited) again?
Hi Ken
When did you last use the project, when you view Video Studio File menu there are 4 last used projects available at the bottom of the list.
A quick launch I suppose you could call it?
Does your project show there.
Ok
When you burnt the dvd did you first render your project to a mpeg2 video file, then used that to burn the dvd?
or did you burn from the project,
When you closed the burner module we are prompted to save the project, did you do that?

Hi Ken
You can import the files from the disc, read this tutorial
http://lata.me.uk/corel/importdvd/dvd.htm
If you are simply adding audio, no problem
If you are replacing audio, use scissors to cut and isolate sections, mute those sections, add audio.
Render the project to Same as First Clip.
Using that to burn a new DVD

no the original .vsp file is always retained on your computer even after you render a video it can be reopened at any time

Re: Need to render a project(edited) again?
Hi Ken
I am confused
You have created a project and completed the editing.
You rendered the project to a mpeg2 video file
Your family viewed that video
Now you need to change the audio.
But you have lost the original project.
Is the above correct
You can edit the Mpeg2 video file by using the scissors to cut video into several clips, adding audio to your selections.
Render to Mpeg2 to create a new video.

Re: Need to render a project(edited) again?
To clarify.
I am about to complete the project, it has not been rendered yet. When it is it will be to a mpeg2 file (as usual).I will not have the final say as to the final DVD contents.I am going to show an initial version to others (not family) who are a charity organisation. They asked to see a version of the DVD without any background music first( but it has some small audio files in it)After they view it they will pass judgement on what they want or do not want so there most likely be some editing to do before authoring another DVD.I posted because I thought it might be easier or better to know what to do before the initial render.I am not sure about how or whether a .vsp is saved after it has been rendered to a mpeg file.Sorry about the confusion

When you elect to have the project saved on closing the burner module, does it go to your working folder, the default windows (7) video folder or some where of its own choosing

Hi Ken
"When you elect to have the project saved on closing the burner module, does it go to your working folder, " - yes.
To be absolutely certain I would "Save as..." under the Edit tab, in a folder and different project (.vsp file) name of your choosing berore the burner module.
Then under the Share tab, rather than burn straight to disk, my preference is to create an ISO image then use a third party program to create the DVD. If you then burn this ISO image to a R/W DVD you can reuse the DVD as necessary. Saves wasting DVDs.

Re: Need to render a project(edited) again?
That is the great thing about video editing - you lose nothing.
The original video files always stay the same - you don't lose them.
Editing produces a .vsp file which is text - that will stay in your computer.
In Share it is best to create a mpeg-2 file for burning as a second stage - that will stay in your PC
Now what you can do is open the first edit (i.e. without music) Add the music and use the Save As to save a new .vsp file under a slightly different name. Example "Charity" for the original edit and "Charity with Music" for the modified edit with the music track added. You can use the original video files as often as you like and create different versions of the same video but do a Save As with a unique name for each edit you make. You only need to render in Share when your audience is happy with the result.
It is a better method to render to a mpeg-2 file and then burn your DVD from that file.

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Re: Need to render a project(edited) again?
Regardless, name the first project version as DRAFT_(name).
When starting the final editing phase, open the DRAFT project and SAVE AS the final published project name.
Edit, render and burn.
Get paid.

GEWB
