Default workspace problems in PaintShop Pro 2018
Has anyone figured out how to set the default workspace in PaintShop Pro 2018? I just upgraded from X9, and in that version you set the default workspace under General Program Preferences and Default Launch Workspace. In 2018 I can't find this setting anywhere. Right now I’m stuck with the Welcome workspace and can’t find a way to change it to the Edit workspace.

File>Preferences>General Program Preferences>Tabs. Unless you want the Adjust tab along with Manage and Edit just make sure only the Manage tab is checked. In the right column select the Edit option for PSP to open up with the Edit screen.
As you are new to this version, it likely would have been a good idea for you to have familiarized yourself with all of the options in the various Preferences, which is a good idea for any new program that people install.

That’s it, thanks a lot! I should have figured that out myself.

Well - just went through 2018's first update and guess what Corel took away - the ability to go into the Edit Screen first. Now they force you through the Welcome screen and force you to select Manage or Edit - no way (that I can now figure out) to go right into the Edit workspace. They took away the ability through the General Preferencs to control the opening screen. I guess they were losing money or something. Gosh I wish their was a better graphics package to move to so I could just tell Corel to shove it.

That's only true for some people, apparently others can still access the tabs area. I wrote a short script that can set the default startup workspace, but you might be better off uninstalling PSP and reinstalling the default version instead of the update.

Thanks for the reply. I have been a PaintShop customer since 2002. The moment Corel bought out Jasc - all the rules changed. Every upgrade (new released version) I have ever done means I have to go in and redo all my settings, template locations, etc. Name another software company that doesn't recover previous setting when you buy an update? Corel just doesn't care and I have to accept that or move on. I just feel the "learning curve" with a new package would exceed the benefit of moving on - guess Corel banks on that.LeviFiction wrote:That's only true for some people, apparently others can still access the tabs area. Thanks for the script offer - maybe Corel will just be concerned about customers when they make updates.
As far as moving back to the original version of 2018 - most vendors included "security" related fixes and I would hate to not have that in place.
I apologize for nasty - just so tired of the game when it comes to Corel. I will get over it...
Thanks again for your kind offer.

Re: Default workspace problems in PaintShop Pro 2018
If you check some of the other recent threads about the update you'll find that there are multiple bugs with the update, not just the missing Tabs options. Also, some people have no issues, and others have different bugs manifesting than others might have. It's just a mess and Corel have removed the update from their updates page. Unfortunately, I doubt that a replacement update will fix the issues and expect that those of us who have update bugs will have to do complete uninstalls and reinstalls to first get rid of the problem update.

Re: Default workspace problems in PaintShop Pro 2018
As there is no way to activate the default on the 2018 Paintshop Pro programme, open windows settings and go to apps and choose default apps then choose photo viewer and choose Corel Paintshop Pro 2018, and you are done.

You can set the default through PaintShop (via File - Preferences - File Format Associations) or you can do it via your Operating System as well.hoopoe wrote:As there is no way to activate the default on the 2018 Paintshop Pro programme, open windows settings and go to apps and choose default apps then choose photo viewer and choose Corel Paintshop Pro 2018, and you are done.
