VideoStudio Pro x5 has no sound

Hi! I've been using X5 since I got it for Christmas four and a half years ago. I had only had some problems with it until now (for a long while no video would render, and recently it would just crash. Both of these problems were fixed). X5 opens now, however, whenever I play the project or clip, there would be no sound. The application doesn't even show up in the Sound Mixer. I don't know what it could be. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

8 GB RAM
64 bit OS
Windows 7
about 50 GB remaining in main hard drive

My best guess from the limited information is either a rewind of your system to an image when X5 worked as expected or, uninstall and reinstall. Use the X5 Cleaner tool linked to by lata at the top of this page.

The cleanup tool will uninstall, but will it require the box the software came in in order to reinstall it? I'm not sure if I still have the box if so. And regarding the sound mixer statement, I mean the menu that shows all the programs open that require sound (like System Sounds and Chrome) and you can change the individual volumes.

There are lots of different video formats, Video Studio can cope with most but does have problems with some formats.
You do not give any details regarding your video file, its properties or where you got the video file from.

Please right click a clip on the timeline and choose properties, what are they, you can take a snapshot of that panel, create an image to attach to your post.

I would not consider uninstalling the program, not for this problem, and certainly not until you can locate the disc to re-install the program.

If you find it difficult to get a resolution to your problem and after exhausting all other avenues you decide to uninstall/re-install you should be able to retrieve the S/N for X5 from the Corel member web site. This is found under "Your Account"/"Registered Products". This assumes, of course, you have registered the product.
But, lata(Trevor) is correct, there are a number of options to investigate before then.

Sorry I haven't gotten back to you for a couple days, was AFK for majority of the day so I couldn't get on for any length of time.

Anyway:
The video files are mp4 files, and I took them on a Moto G phone three years ago. The properties are in the picture (if I attached it correctly).

The MP4 file looks likely to be variable frame rate - a potential problem for VideoStudio. Better to convert to a constant frame rate, could use Handbrake.

My setup does not show VideoStudio under the Volume Mixer unless I have a clip on the Timeline that has audio associated with it and I hit the play button (I think, a wee while since I tampered with such things).

Does the MP4 file(s) play with audio in VLC/Widows Media Player etc? When in VideoStudio with the MP4 file on the Timeline, if you "Split Audio" does the audio show a wave form? I'm assuming other video files play with audio OK in VideoStudio.

*facepalm* I'm so dumb. I'm sorry.
The audio doesn't play when inProject mode, but it does play inClip mode.
Splitting the audio and using Project mode still has no audio, but selecting just the audio and using clip mode works.
WMV and MOV have the same issue.
And now it's showing up in the Sound Mixer.

Hi

Video recorded by Iphones can cause problems for video editors, simply playing the files using media players could work ok, that is Clip mode, but has issues when we try to edit, play in project mode.

Your best option as John advised is to convert the video.

But can you try changing the audio volume level, defaults to 100%, change that to 99%
A little trick that works for some types of video.
You can also try renaming the file to use the extension Mov instead of mp4, then hope….

Have you applied the two service patches to X5, the latest version as far as I can tell is 15.0.0.13 Upps typo should read 15.3.0.13

Strange that I have a different version numbers, (15.3.0.13) also my version shows as Pro not Ultimate yet I have all the Ultimate packs installed.
