Can i change the Colour Swatch appearance in X8 ?

Attached are the screenshots of the swatch in X6 and X8, i find the X8 one awful to use in comparison, the X6 one I have found dead easy to use, it shows all the primary 7 colours, red, yellow, green, etc, and shows the # code for each all in one window, i cant even see anywhere on the swatch in X8 where it shows the primary colours? Is there a way to change the appearance of this swatch in X8 to be more like the one in X6 ?

You could create such a palette of colors yourself. I beleive X7 instroduced separate swatch palettes. It'll take some slight setup, but you could create your own standard palette of colors and select that from the top drop-down.

I know X9 has this ability, not sure if X8 does, but X9 and now 2018 have the option to use the old X6 version of the materials palette. It's under preferences. If X8 does not have this option, then creating your own palette is the only option I can offer.

thank you! if i cant get X6 working again i'll have to look at getting X9

You will need servicepack 2 for X8.
It will give you the option of setting the materialpalette with the swatches the way it was in X2.
After installing Servicepack 2:
* File > Preferences > General Program Preferences > Palettes (on the left) > Use Classic material Properties
