Upgraded from X8 to X10

Post by MikesMovies »

Good morning all

Well when I closed down X8 last night I was offered X10 ultimate for £20 so felt it would be rude not to try it :)

Installed without issue which was nice as X8 was a pain to install.

10 seems well appointed, very familiar but of course I could really do with the libraries and custom txts etc to appear in 10 so there is my first question.
How can I integrate X8 stuff into X10?

Disappointments, well yeah I don't like that you have to buy Triple scoop music now where as before it was free, in fact it remains free in X8, also this muserk is all paid for!

Audio editing, I had read that it was better than X8 but I can't see any difference?

Welcome screen seems to be a lot of ads for more paid stuff so not sure its overly helpful.

What would be cool would be for any experienced users to high me the highlights on the new stuff in X10 and any other tips to speed my learning process.

Seems quite stable anyway.

Regards to all

Mike

Hi Mike

To answer a few............
If you export the X8 library you should be able to import to X10.
That will add the X8 library clips to your existing X10 libraries, retaining the X10 clips.
As far as I know your Title libraries will not be transferred, something Corel needs to address.
But you can transfer them by creating a VSP of all your titles.
Open that in X10 to drag the clips to your new library.

Smart Sound QuickTracks music was removed from Video Studio replaced with another type, accessed in the same way via Auto Music
In addition X10 now provides Sonic Fire pro 6, an audio editor allows us to create sound clips, similar to using the old Smart Sound. It is a stand alone program, whether they later combine that within the program is debatable.

The other music libraries, Triple Scoop and Muserk Sound seem to be advertising the product, a bone of contention among some users, but we can hide those folders if you wish.

Introduction of Multi Camera Editing is good for those who use several cameras to record same scenes.

The welcome screen again seems to advertise, but has links to tutorials, the Get More tab does have a few free templates, may be useful.

Changes to the FX library has given us new filters, although there are so many that I doubt I will use all of them, but the new BCC Title Studio is interesting.

Just one clarification here. SonicFire Pro only works with SmartSound files. But it's great if, in the past, you have built up a SmartSound library of clips -- though that can be expensive!

Getting lost in BCC Title editor.

Can't find how to change the text size and it seems rather unstable :(

Hi Mike

BCC --- A bit of a learning curve as expected with new effects, and I am no expert.

There is an advanced mode, press the first button ( Lower Right) with the + symbol for advanced.
Locate the timeline Body Text, that will allow you to change the font.
But has been set to fit the panels design, so should be correct.

You may be best starting a new post regarding BCC maybe others can help?

Hi

If in FX Browser Mode, at the bottom right there is a button with a + sign and two lines, click on that to change to Advanced Mode. Then highlight the text you want to change in the Timeline left panel, double click the text, this pulls up the text in the Preview panel, then change the font/size/color as needed.

Great stuff everyone thanks, getting going with that now :)

Another question, so far I have only made a slide show with some old photos with X10 but have found that it's output speed (where it makes the video file) seems really, really slow compared to X8.
As far as I know I have everything set up the same.
Is this a known issue or have I done something wrong?

After importing the X8 VSP for your slide show into X10 and not making any other changes, what is the render time in X8 compared to X10?

I thought that you were complaining that a X8 VSP was taking measurably longer to render in X10 vs. X8. Without metrics it's hard to support the conjecture that X10 renders identical VSPs slower than X8. In any event, you can export a X10 VSP to X8 format if you wish to experiment and get some metrics.

In X10, go to File > Save As, and you should see a dropdown menu arrow which, when you click it, allows you to save not only in X10 format but also gives you the choice of either of X9 or X8. The rule is that later versions of VS can open earlier version project files. But earlier versions can only open later version project files if they have been Saved As the earlier version format; and a later version of VS can only Save As going back two versions from itself. So if you open X8, for example, you will see that it can also save in X7 and X6 format, just like X10 can also save in X9 and X8 format.

Thanks Ken, done that and the results speak for themselves.
Somewhat disappointed to have my feelings proved.

As an example I rendered two exact copies to the same drive location one in X8 and one in X10 as shown here:
X8 MPEG 4 AVC 720X480, 30p 2.5 Mbps took = 8m 13s to render a 7m 20s video file.
x10 same settings took = 12m 40s.
