I've got VideoStudio version 4 installed on my Windows computer. I just upgraded to VideoStudioX10.
Can I uninstall version 4 from my computer? I assume it's a straight uninstall procedure using Windows Control Panel / Uninstall Programs. If not please advise.
Thanks!!
Is uninstalling a previous version ok?

Welcome to the forum!
And yes, you can remove the older version of VS. I assume you are talking about version X4 rather than plain version 4 as the latter would be 16 or 17 years old now. But installation of X10 installs a completely separate package which does not use parts of earlier versions.
And yes you can remove it using Windows uninstall, though if it is indeed X4 there is a dedicated removal tool which can be found in http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 86#p329686 at the head of this forum. Usually the Windows uninstaller leaves traces of the program scattered around, whereas this dedicated uninstaller does a better job.
If space on your hard drive is not a problem, my inclination, though, would be to leave the earlier version on your computer for a while until you are satisfied that X10 is working the way you want. This could be particularly important if you have any uncompleted projects still in version X4. Mind you, X10 can certainly open X4 projects and edit them. But if anything goes wrong, you would still have X4 to fall back on for those projects.
You need to bear in mind, however, that if you open an X4 project in X10 and save it, you can no longer open it in X4. This is because Video Studio can only save backward-compatible files of up to two earlier versions. In that case it would be wise, if you open an X4 project in X10, then save it in the latter with a different name. That way, if anything went wrong, you could reopen the original project file in X4.

I wouldn't uninstall it unless you are really pressed for HDD space.pwslo wrote:I've got VideoStudio version 4 installed on my Windows computer
Personally I've VS X4, X5, X6, X7, X8, X9, X10 installed because not all VSPs created by older versions of VS will open without error in a newer version of VS if certain features have been used.

Re: Is uninstalling a previous version ok?
Hi
If you have completed your projects then you are safe to remove the older program.
Some of your clips used in the project may be dedicated to X4, removing the program would affect your project.
If you are unsure I would create a Smart Package of your project, that copies all clips used in the project to a new folder.
Then you are safe to remove the older program.
