Large Clips Killing Frame Rate in Preview
So it seems if my clip sizes exceed 5-6min that the preview playback and scrubbing are experiencing extreme frame loss. Is there a way to configure x10 to work with larger files?

I don't quite understand what you mean. 5-6 minute files are not "large" files. What format are the files? What resolution are the source files? How about the properties of the source files?
The preview playback really does not tell you very much.

Depending on your response to canuck's questions, you may need to use SmartProxy. While you appear to have a powerful computer, some high definition formats (especially as you move into 4K) territory, are very demanding of computer resources. Using SmartProxy creates standard definition copies ("proxies") of the originals. These are easily edited and play smoothly in the preview screen. When satisfied with your editing, the edits are applied in the end to the originals. You need to be patient, though, since creation of the proxy files can take some time.

Yeah I know they're not large that's why this is so frustrating.
The files are MP4s at 1920x1080.
I tried stringing together 40min of small clips and had no issues. So it's not total project length. But when I use one of my 10min+ files it can't render the preview. And my ram usage with the program never exceeds 800mb. I assumed with it being 64bit that it would be able to load most of this into ram and I wouldn't have an issue but that's not the case.

I tried using proxies but it didn't make a difference with the bigger files, like I thought it should. How long is "some time" for the proxy creation and is there an indication for it creating the proxy that I'm missing?
I don't mind if the preview is low def as long as it's smooth.

Re: Large Clips Killing Frame Rate in Preview
Hi
Once we Enable Proxy Files we have then to render those files.
For clips already on the timeline we right click and choose Create Proxy Files, can be done via the library.
For new clips inserted to the timeline will have proxies created automatically.
We can view the process via Tools Smart Proxy Manager viewing the Queue manager or File Manager.
Once proxy files have been created a small icon can be seen on the clip.

Re: Large Clips Killing Frame Rate in Preview
Ok readjusted the proxy settings so it automatically created proxies when I dropped the clips into the timeline and that fixed the problem. Thanks for the help.
Render time for the proxies is a little frustrating but at least I can jump around on the timeline once their rendered without frame drop.
I still don't understand why it's not adequately utilizing ram.
