Well that is interesting, yesterday that "solution" of deleting those two files in IPP was working and now today they are not. So guess will have to leave it up to the clever people at Corel with their diagnostic tools.

EDIT : Ahh forgot to keep the internet disconnected while starting up PSP X9. It must be allowed to attempt to call home and fail . Then it works by deleting those files.

@JoeB
I decided as soon as the problems occurred to wait and see. As the problem is so widespread, and obviously caused by Corel, they have no choice but to come with a patch that solves it. They can't afford not to with the recent launch of a new version. Here in The Netherlands PSP 2018 won't be in the shops until today. And we and Belgium may be minute countries, but we have a noticable userbase. Many of my users are not sure they want to upgrade, so Corel has work to do.

But solutions are being offered and files and folders mentioned I never heard of before. I marvel at people's knowledge and experience and learn all the time.
I only learned about the IPP folder and what's in it on Saturday, before this X9 glitch, because someone asked me what my number in that folder was.

Had it been a limited problem I might have tried the offered solutions. But, as one of the last posts suggest, deleting the storeData.json only works for a limited time.
I unticked the boxes in all my PSP versions that enables Corel to push messages and advertising and delete the Messages folder in C://Program Data/Corel on a regular basis. Hmm..maybe I could make that read-only or would that make no difference to Corel. Furthermore I have unticked all the boxes in my personal account, where Corel gives you the option to untick all the options of receiving messages, marketing or updates. Updates and patches are always downloadable from the Corel site.

I wait and see.

OKAY, so I received a reply from tech support. He asked me to do a clean uninstall with a tool and use a new executable.
I did not think that it would work and of course IT DID NOT!
I sent a report on my system and executed a tool to give them all the poop on my errors.
But the problem is NOT my machine as you all will attest.

I guess tech support needs to get up to speed and not mind read. or rather read the forum posts and
get on the same page.

Should you be asked to reinstall, I would suggest that you decline as it is a perfect waste of everyone's time.

PERHAPS THE MODERATORS HAVE A MORE DIRECT LINE TO THE ENGINEERING. I think that Corel should
desist from advertising their new product and shut down the input device that is crippling the program(s).

I sure hope that they will take responsibility. I really don't think that the tech read my notes. I tried to
pass on the forums observations. But alas, I guess we'll have to spin our wheels for a while.

mint wrote:I had the same issue as everyone else, but managed to fix it yesterday and still working fine today thanks to a combination of things that I read on here .

The secret is to get rid of the Items.dat file and the storeData.json file as explained below.....but then you have to prevent it from creating them again...which it will do as soon as you start it up whilst connected to the net...that involves 2 things.....open PSP X9 , goto file and down at the bottom preferences , then miscellaneous ....turn off "Show Splash Screen when application starts"

You still want to prevent PSP from trying to connect to the net though, otherwise it will just recreate those files...so to do this use windows firewall advanced settings ....create outbound rules and browse to where the corel.exe files are in program files....I blocked 4 of them.....hey presto.....have not had the issue return so far.
Obviously if you need PSP to access the net for an update etc then you will need to disable the rules, but that's easy enough.

If you need to know ho to block a program try here....too easy "www.simplehelp.net/2015/09/02/how-to-bl ... indows-10/"
hartpaul wrote:This method works well :
Prepare this as a shortcut on desktop and open it before opening PSP X9

C:\ProgramData\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro X9\IPP

Delete storeData.json

Open the numbered folder at the top and delete items.dat
I can confirm that this works on my system too. I used my firewall to block PSPX9 (also stopped annoying ads inside the app - like AfterShot Pro ad in raw labs).

I received an email from Corel support asking me to delete temporary files and a few other things which a few people have mentioned on here. I have sent them a link to this forum, saying that it is not my computer, unless everyone has exactly the same computer issues which I very strongly doubt. I will wait and see.

Just remember my earlier post, now lost a page or more ago. I now have the Corel development team working on finding a solution to the problem, so for the moment forget going to Corel Support. They are probably still out of the loop.

I just got an email back from tech support saying the person has had the issue herself and the devs are on it, but in the mean time, to make sure that Windows is up to date (it is) and that you try reinstalling the Universal C Runtime... Now she pointed me to here:

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/hel ... in-windows

But that doesn't have the windows 10 version for install/update so I guess that is of no use for most of us who are on Windows 10.

I don't know if that will work or not but I thought I'd pass it onto you guys. The shift File/new does work for me, however, which is good. Shame I can't install the rain script I purchased. :( Ugh.

Hi all,

I might have a simpler solution/workaround. I just modified the configuration file "IPP.CFG" in folder C:\ProgramData\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro X9

I changed the content to:

SERVER_URL=https://localhost
REST_SERVER_URL=http://localhost
REQUEST_SERVER_TIMEOUT=3000
CHANNEL=Corel

Note: If you cannot modify the file, copy it first to a temp folder, modify it, and copy it back.

This worked after a new installation on a machine which did not have any previous installations of PSP.
It worked with the (trial) version (19.2.0.7.x64), which I downloaded today at 3:30 PM (GMT+2). They might have patched the software already , but I doubt it.
Still have to test it at home (I am at work now).

Can somebody confirm this works?

Thanks.

PROBLEM SOLVED (Well, at least for me): After reading virtually all the postings here, and applying all the suggestions, I was able to completely solve the problem by denying internet access to all executable files in the main PaintShop Pro X9 directory. I'm running Microsoft Windows 10 Home, v10.0.15063, Build 15063, and the following procedures completely solved the problem for me. I didn't need to delete any files, and after creating all the Firewall Deny files, I never had to disconnect from the Internet.
This works on both the 64-bit and 32-bit versions. Here are the procedures:
SHOW HIDDEN FILES:
Before you begin, you will need to enable Show hidden files, folders, and drives in Windows Explorer. To do this, open any Windows Explorer screen and click on the View tab at the top. Now click on Options to the right and select Change folder and search options. In the Folder Options window, select the View tab, and fill-in the radio dial for Show hidden files, folders, and drives, and then click Apply, and OK.
FIREWALL BLOCK PROCEDURES:
1. Click on the Start button and select Cortana.
2. Type Windows Firewall into the Search box.
3. Click on Windows Firewall at the top of the list.
4. When the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security screen appears, click on Outbound Rules.
5. In the far-right window, click on New Rule….
6. The New Outbound Rule Wizard screen will appear.
7. Select the Program radio dial, and click on Next.
8. Select the This program path: radio dial, and then click on Browse.
9. Navigate to your PaintShop Pro X9 installation directory. Since I'm currently using the 64-bit version, my location was:
10. C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro X9 (64-bit)
11. If you're using the 32-bit version, your location will probably be as follows:
12. C:\ Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro X9 (32-bit)
13. Select the first executable file, click on Open, and then Next.
14. Fill-in the radio dial for Block the connection, and click on Next.
15. Check all three boxes for Domain, Private, and Public, and click on Next.
16. Write a name for your Firewall Block rule, and click on Finish.
17. Go back and complete Steps 5-16 for the remaining executable files. I have 7 executable files, so I created 7 Firewall Block rules.
18. When you're all done, close the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security screen.
19. Reboot your computer. This was important for me as the Firewall Block rules didn't work until after I rebooted.
20. DONE! You should now be able to create a New image.
21. CAUTION: Using this method may/will block getting up-dates for PaintShop Pro X9, but that shouldn't be a big problem. I'm sure Corel will provide a program up-date soon enough.

I hope this works for you all.

Regards,
Peter

@Trevor
Your program shouldn't crash. The only problem is that you can't create a new image in PSP X9.
All other functions work.
So if yours crashes, there is something else going on?

Unfortunately, my installation does NOT have that file. Yes, I changed the Explorer view settings to show ALL hidden files and directories.

Peter

P.S. I have a solution that works perfectly on my system (Windows 10), and it works on both the 64-bit and 32-bit versions of PSP. I'm simply waiting for the moderator to approve the post. Hopefully it will be up soon.
