Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
@Joe...stupid question, no doubt, but where would I find the host file, you are referring to?

Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
Forriner answered your question. What I'm curious about is whether or not the procedure I outlined (and which you are apparently trying to follow) actually fixes the issue for you. I can't test myself because I don't have the issue.Zantara wrote:Found it...thank you, Forriner.

Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
Using windows 10 and program closes when I try to FILE>NEW. This happens in PSP X9 ultimate 64 and 32 bit versions. I have all updates. I don't have the problem with PSP X7
Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
Ditto: Same problem. Previously suggested solutions did not resolved. I don't think this was caused by a Microsoft Patch, since I still have some pending. I suspect this has to do with the banner-advertisment for Corel X10 that shows when you first launch the program.
Looking forward to a solution.

Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
X9 was the last in the X series. Are you referring to PSP2018, which is version 20? If so, not everyone with the issue with X9 has installed 2018. And when you say Banner Ad, are you referring to the splash screen? That can be turned off in Preferences.traywolf wrote:Ditto: Same problem. Previously suggested solutions did not resolved. Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
Same problem here, just started in the last few days. I have tried reinstalling X9, with and without the two updates, to no avail. I suspect something to do with a Windows update, or some kind of time bomb in the app. Maybe this is Corel's way to "prod" its customers to buy the recent new version that they are pushing on us in the pop-ups? I'd like to see those pop-ups go away, by the way, or at least give us an option to disable them. They are EXTREMELY annoying, especially since I paid to have a full version.
Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
Unfortunately I'm having the same problem ad rtaher wish I had checked in here prior to uninstalling and reinstalling PSP X9. Until yesterday, it had been working without issue, no windows updates so assuem it is just 'one of thoe things'. Bit of a nuisance to say the least, after fifteen or so years using PSP, I feel I shall be going over to the darkside.

Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
This is just an interim post. As noted above, I drew the attention of Corel's development team. They have now gotten back to me, saying they are able to replicate this "serious crash". They are now working on a solution and will get back to me when they have it.

Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
Thanks for the update. While the issue does not affect my X9 it's obvious that it does for tons of other users. I have little doubt that it is related to the pushed advertising files that Corel installs (as suggested by other posts) and wish it would teach Corel a lesson about pushing these ads in purchased programs. All program releases tend to have at least some bugs related to the program's use, but to introduce bugs by adding garbage that isn't part of the core purpose of the program is unconscionable. JMHO, of course.Ken Berry wrote:This is just an interim post. As noted above, I drew the attention of Corel's development team. Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
I did read here : while holding down the shift key then click FILE > NEW that it will work. I tried it and it works. Temporary fix is better than nothing.

Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
I too am having this issue. I have been able to use the program fine within the last couple of days but today PSP X9 is crashing when trying to create a 'New' image. All other functions of the program seem to be working fine. Also on Windows 10 and have not done any OS updates in the last few days.

Thanks for letting us know. Glad they're actually acknowledging the issue. Hopefully a fix will be forthcoming SOON.

Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
I had the same issue as everyone else, but managed to fix it yesterday and still working fine today thanks to a combination of things that I read on here .
The secret is to get rid of the Items.dat file and the storeData.json file as explained below.....but then you have to prevent it from creating them again...which it will do as soon as you start it up whilst connected to the net...that involves 2 things.....open PSP X9 , goto file and down at the bottom preferences , then miscellaneous ....turn off "Show Splash Screen when application starts"
You still want to prevent PSP from trying to connect to the net though, otherwise it will just recreate those files...so to do this use windows firewall advanced settings ....create outbound rules and browse to where the corel.exe files are in program files....I blocked 4 of them.....hey presto.....have not had the issue return so far.
Obviously if you need PSP to access the net for an update etc then you will need to disable the rules, but that's easy enough.
If you need to know ho to block a program try here....too easy "www.simplehelp.net/2015/09/02/how-to-bl ... indows-10/"

Prepare this as a shortcut on desktop and open it before opening PSP X9
C:\ProgramData\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro X9\IPP
Delete storeData.json
Open the numbered folder at the top and delete items.dat
