Interesting... so PSP is dipping in to a server somewhere at launch time? Maybe that's where things are going bonkers.

Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
Could be. I have all programs (except those needing the internet like browsers, email, etc.) blocked from the internet with my firewall, and also have them set to never check for updates. That includes PSP. So maybe doing that, plus renaming the IPP file as LeviFiction suggests, might be the answer to the issue.theavy wrote:Interesting... so PSP is dipping in to a server somewhere at launch time? But still, why did it just start today?

Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
If it has to do with the store, templates and such, it might have something to do with an update they made to the downloaded information that works with 2018 but unknowingly broke X9. It's the only thing I can think of as the templates section is the only thing that can be updated dynamically and is part of the New Image dialog. But it is just a guess.

Same here. Crash when trying to create a new image. I am able to do pretty much anything else and I only get a crash when attempting new image.

-PSP X9 v. 19.1.0.29 x64
-I do not have 2018

Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
I have just had the New Document close this morning (last hour), and following Levifictions suggestion, renamed the IPP in X9 Program Data to oldIPP, and tunred off the internet.
Then New document worked .
I then looked at the oldIPP
It contained files and folders as below I discovered that if I slowly added these files to a newly named IPP folder, which files cause the crash.
if storeData.json is present X9 crashes
if you delete storeData.json and run the program again it crashes and storeData.json gets recreated,
Apparently items.dat helps to recreate storeData.json so both of these must be removed and internet turned off to get X9 New document to work.
So the bug is an inadvertent one included in one of the files that Corel causes to be downloaded from the Corel site. Big stuffup corel with your advertising.

Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
Ahhh that explains a lot because I also noticed this at the same point I bought one of the script packages, only to find that it won't start the installation - it says it's downloaded it, but the file isn't actually on my computer... and even with an older plugin that I bought, it won't automatically run that either....
*sigh* hopefully they fix it soon.

Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
I checked my update history and installation dates and nothing has been added or changed in a week or two to this windows 10 machine. Wonder if it might be an antivirus thing. I have ESET.
However, if anyone has ghost image of their drive from say a week ago, it might be worth a restore to see if the problem exists after going back. I'm talking about Acronis or the like rather than
system restore, although that's a thought to try also.

Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
I have the same problem with X9, if I click directly on New or File/New, but I rarely start a new Document that way, so only realised this after reading about it in a group.
But there is an easy way to overcome it, until it gets sorted. The way I normally start a New Document still works for me.
Shift Click on File/New or on the New icon and a new document will open with no problems. This is how I usually open a new document as I tend to use the same size most of the time in my work.
If it is the wrong size use Resize, Crop or Canvas to get it how you want.

Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
Got the same problem. It's worldwide then.
If you have no other PSP version available, maybe you can do the following:
* Open an existing image, preferrably with the same proportions
* Adjust size if needed
* Turn your backgroundlayer into a rasterlayer
* Press Delete on your keyboard
* Work as usual

Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
This method works well :
Prepare this as a shortcut on desktop and open it before opening PSP X9
C:\ProgramData\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro X9\IPP
Delete storeData.json
Open the numbered folder at the top and delete items.dat
Now for the remainder of that session New Document will work until PSP X9 phones home again and recreates those files.

Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
@hartpaul
Funnily enough someone sent me a PM here, asking for the numer in that IPP folder only yesterday.
We all have different numbers, depending on the country?
One of my members pointed out that in your personal account with Corel there is the section "Status and History of your orders".
It states there that Corel is currently migrating their system to a new platform. There is a redirect to your order history.
Would the migration have anything to do with this worldwide problem?

Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
Shift-clicking 'new' works, thanks! ... creating this new document...
A batch file to accomplish the procedure detailed above...
echo off
cls
del "c:\programdata\corel\corel paintshop pro x9\ipp\storedata.json"
del "c:\programdata\corel\corel paintshop pro x9\ipp\0563300122\items.dat"
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro X9\Corel PaintShop Pro.exe"
But Unfortunately the procedure doesn't work for me. PSP creates the files as the program pulls up.
Note: I ran through the process manually to check the batch file for errors and it's fine... but no luck for me. OS win 10, creator.
Also, It appears that the file location of items.dat is different than that detailed previously... nothing is stored in the
\EN folder or its sub folders.
shift-click works for now!
echo off
cls
del "c:\programdata\corel\corel paintshop pro x9\ipp\storedata.json"
del "c:\programdata\corel\corel paintshop pro x9\ipp\0563300122\items.dat"

Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
The file storedata.json came up last year with regard to the advertising popups in X8. The .json file is a javascript file. So one thing to try is simply open it in a text editor, delete the contents, save it and change its properties to Read Only. (You might want to try making the items.dat Read Only also, but don't know if that will work or not). As a second precaution, add the following line to your Hosts file (it should stop PSP from reaching the server):hartpaul wrote:I have just had the New Document close this morning (last hour), and following Levifictions suggestion, renamed the IPP in X9 Program Data to oldIPP, and tunred off the internet.

Apparently items.dat helps to recreate storeData.json so both of these must be removed and internet turned off to get X9 New document to work.
So the bug is an inadvertent one included in one of the files that Corel causes to be downloaded from the Corel site. Big stuffup corel with your advertising.
127.0.0.1 ipp.corel.com
Here is a link to my post to one thread about the subject. In that post, you'll also find a link to the original thread in which this solution was first posted:
http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... on#p331241
As I said before, I keep all things Corel blocked from the internet by my firewall as well as unchecking the messages options and unchecking the option to check for updates. I suspect that's at least one reason I haven't experienced the bug, and IMHO is the easiest way to prevent Corel from messing with things.

Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
Phew! It's frustrating but now I don't feel so bad since it's a general issue that everyone seems to be having. I hope they monitor this board and come up with a solution. Meanwhile, I'm going to try the solution a user above had of cutting a blank portion from an image and pasting as a new image. VERY annoying.
