PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image

I have both 32bit and 64bit X9 installed on my machine using WIN 8.1 (but from other posts the OS isn't necessarily the culprit). In my case I do NOT have the fully patched version but have version 19.1.0.29 (didn't add the latest patch because of some previous posts about it causing some issues). I can open new images with both the 32 and 64bit versions with no problems.

IF it isn't a problem caused by WIN10 (and it doesn't appear to be) there should still be something common among the users because the issue seems to have happened to those reporting them within a very short period of time of each other. Two things come to mind:

1) Are all of you using the latest patched version instead of a slightly older patch like mine?

2) Have all of you installed something new to your systems in common - I'm thinking of PSP 2018 in particular?

The fact that it's happening to so many people all at once certainly points to a commonality of some sort.

I have certainly installed PSP 2018 in recent days -- and that was the first thing I tried testing to see if it had the same problem. It didn't.

Anyway, I have already drawn Corel's attention to the problem -- though it will probably take at least a couple of days for them to get back to us.

I wasn't suggesting that 2018 would have the same problem. I was suggesting that installing 2018 might have caused an issue with X9. I know that all versions of PSP to date co-exist very well, but I'm wondering if it's possible that 2018 might be an exception and might make some registry change that is common to X9. It's just a thought though. Just trying to find out what might be common to all of you who have suddenly been confronted with this strange issue. Also, of course, wondering if it might somehow also be associated with the final x9 patch.

I do not have PSP 18 installed... and I never tried opening a new image... the last win 10 update was 7/11.
Same thing has happened to me with pspx9. I tried it with the 32 bit and the 64 bit versions.
I reinstalled and even used a second installation file and same thing.

SO... I installed PSP X8 and that works fine. So the bug is a probably internal since you guys have other operating systems.
The new image dialog box is not coming up but instead a protection fault.



Hope that Corel fixes this fast.

I am using PSP X9 Version 19.2.07 x64 (and the 32 bit version is crashing as well). And I haven't installed PSP 2018.

I've just tried the PSP X7 version 17.4.0.11 x64 I still have - it's fine. Thanks to those of you who have alerted Corel to the problem.

I just re-read the first sentence of your quote about it being your wife's version of X9. Do you have a version of X9 on your computer and, if so, do you also have the issue?

No crashing here on Windows 7 Pro. Looks like everyone who's posted in this thread is on Windows 10.

Do you have the latest X9 patch or, like me, are working with an earlier patch? Also, did you install PSP 2018?

I have the same version on my PC. It was working fine early this morning (and all morning long for that matter) until I exited the program. Once I restarted it, I had the problem.

I had been using PSP X9 for weeks without an issue. Windows 10 has not been updated since July 28th, and PSP X9 has been running with Update 4 for months.

My wife's machine was working fine up until she left town on Wednesday. She shut it off and then started it up this morning to use PSP again when the problem occurred.

I do not have 2018.

Well, of the 2 variables I suggested this seems to rule out 2018 as being the culprit. But unless we hear differently from the others who have this issue, it still leaves open the possibility it has something to do with the latest X9 patch because you have that patch, Barry has it, and I don't. But that's just a wild guess at the moment in trying to determine what's common among all of you and might not be the issue either. Will have to wait to hear from someone else on that, like Kathy, whose X9 is still working.

...I can only assume a recent windows update has affected the program as it was working fine a few months ago when I used it.

In light of reported crashes under 8.1 and 10 and the emergence of the cause of the error during the past 24 hours in some reported cases (I went from fine last evening to crashing with PSP X9 this morning) in the absence of any Windows Updates I find it doubtful that a resent windows update is the culprit. Not to say that the fault doesn't reside, at least in part in Windows, However, given the wide code base represented here it would need to be at quite a high level. I find this issue very interesting in that it seems to involve some time dependent qualifier..strange.

Well, that also eliminates the idea of it being caused by having the latest patched version of X9 (we already know it isn't related (at least solely) to the OS or updates to Windows). As Bob Welsh said, this is a very interesting state of affairs, particularly given that it seems to have struck some X9 users during a very limited short time frame. There still should be some commonality, but again could be some combination of things.

As well, it's a very limited issue - just one small operation, not something that otherwise affects the usability of X9. I don't think I've ever run across a program issue that is both so limited in scope and also so limited in the time frame that it suddenly pops up out of nowhere after everything has worked properly for so long. Time to start formulating conspiracy theories!

Mine did the same thing. Odd how it started after Corel released the 2018 Ultimate version. So, I upgraded and sent in a support eMail in the first 30 minutes. It refuses to create a new toolbar, go figure. Seven hours later, still waiting.

It may be a limited issue, but it's rather annoying to have to open up another art program to create a new file at a precise measurement.

I got PSPX9 to get away from my older version which was still version 9 and quite buggy due to being so old. Unfortunately, it seems this program is still just as buggy lol. (It IS rather suspicious that this happened after I started to get notifications about PSP 2018 being out, though, if you want conspiracy theories ) Oh well, as you said, at least most of the program still works. (Unlike PSP9 which is so old it randomly stops working for no reason)

Hopefully the developers will be able to find SOMETHING and fix it in the next update.

When I had this issue this morning I was able to solve it temporarilty by turning off my wifi, going into my Program Data folder and renaming the IPP folder found under x9. Starting up PSP, using the New Image command at least once. Then turning my wifi back on. Eventually it downloads the store information again and breaks again. But it's enough to get me going.
