PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
All of a sudden, by wife's version of PSP X9 has started acting up. She attempts to create a new image by clicking File/new, clicking the 'New image' button, using 'Ctrl/n' or even 'New image from template' and PSP will crash. I've tried resetting PSP by holding the Shift key while launching the program... that didn't fix anything. I've even tried an uninstall and reinstall... the program still crashes.
Anybody have thoughts on what else I can try to get this thing going?
Thanks in advance!

Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
I think it has something to do with the Template store.
Go to C:\ProgramData\corel\X9
It's a hidden folder so if you don't see it try just typing it into the address bar or turning on "show hidden files and folders" in the settings on Windows.
In that folder you'll find a folder named "IPP" rename it to something like "IPP.old" and then restart PSP. You should be fine after that.

Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
Same here. Something happened between last night 8/4/2017 20:47 and 8/5/2017 9:35 this morning. Tried to create new blank back ground exactly like I did last night and 100's of times prior and it crashed. Everything else seems to be working in PSP 9.
System is Windows 10 Fall Creators Update, 64-bit (last update was 8/2/2017),
Intel I7-3770@3.4 GHz (stock clock),
16GB of memory
I tried uninstalling my up-to-date PSP X9 and reinstalling but no change. Was about to try a fresh install of Windows 10 (absolute horror show if you have a work system) but came here first. Was shocked to see an entry using the same text as my google query

Mine started doing this exact same thing a few hours ago. I used it this morning, no problem. Went to breakfast for about an hour and tried to open a new file and it crashes.

Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
Same issue - waiting for post to be approved. Anyway, I can crop a section from an existing file to use as a base layer and still copy image on top and edit (and save). Thus avoiding creating a new image file.theavy wrote:All of a sudden, by wife's version of PSP X9 has started acting up. Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
Apparently there are quite a few people having this issue, me included.
I get a "Runtime" error.
This is what it says:
Runtime Error!
Program:....86\Corel\Corel PaintShop Pro X9\Corel PaintShop Pro.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way.
Please contact the application's support team for more information.

Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
I have PSPX9 installed both on my 32-bit comp and my 64-bit comp, and both of them are having the same issue. On the 32-bit comp (Windows 7) the program itself disappears behind one of my other programs running (often discord or a browser, depending on what I used last) and nothing else happens. I have to use Ctrl+Alt+Del to force the program to shutdown. On the 64-bit comp, (Windows 10) it immediately loads a "Sending an error report" window.
Really hoping this is a temporary bug that will get fixed within the next few weeks, because I have an art class starting in fall, and I can't have my brand new art program being unable to create new images. :/
Also, I did try renaming the IPP folder. Didn't work for me, either.

Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
I'm having exactly the same issue today. I can edit an existing image, but I can't create a new image using the 'New Image' button. If I try, I get the message, "Corel PaintStop Pro X9 (64-bit) has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."
I tried both renaming IPP and resetting PSP X9. Still the same.

Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
Hmmm... I don't use File > New all that much, and probably never did with X9. However, I have just tried it and, like everyone here, my X9 simply crashed with the normal Windows 'Paintshop has stopped working' error message. This happened with both the 64 and 32 bit versions. Yet New works fine in the new PSP 2018 and indeed in X8. My X9 is the fully patched version 19.2.0.7...
Just to check it out, I fired up another computer and opened X9 on that, and exactly the same thing happened.
My first thought when something like this happens, was that it might have been the fault of a Windows update since similar things have happened fairly often in the past. But on checking my Win 10 updates, I see that the last update was on 28 July.
I will report this to the Corel PSP development team, and will post any reply from them. But I don't expect a quick reply, given that today is Sunday.

No crashing here on Windows 7 Pro. Looks like everyone who's posted in this thread is on Windows 10.

Neither my Windows 7 nor my Windows 10 have been updated since I got the program a week ago.Ken Berry wrote: My first thought when something like this happens, was that it might have been the fault of a Windows update since similar things have happened fairly often in the past. .
It's crashing on my Windows 7 Home 32-bit computer as well, so it's not just Windows 10.Kathy_9 wrote:No crashing here on Windows 7 Pro. Looks like everyone who's posted in this thread is on Windows 10.

Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
I also opened a support ticket with Corel... waiting for a response. I've talked to another user who has tried PSP X8 and 2018 with no errors, but has X9 crashing in the same manner as reported here.
I had been using PSP X9 most of the morning, creating images and all kinds of other stuff. Then, I made the fatal mistake of exiting. When I restarted X9, I had the exact same problem when trying to create a new image. Guess I'll have to create a new image by opening an existing image, clearing it, sizing it, then moving on, until something gets figured out.

Re: PSP X9 crashes when trying to create a new image
I haven't used PSP9-SP4 (64bit) in a while but just tried it and it crashes when creating a new image under windows 10.
I can only assume a recent windows update has affected the program as it was working fine a few months ago when I used it.
Hopefully Corel will release a patch soon.
