Re: What do you like in PSP 2018?
I like 2018 a lot, but the one item I can not get used to is the new behavior with image cropping. It zooms out and puts grey borders outside the image perimeter. Is there a way to disable this so that it works like it did in X9 ?

Re: What do you like in PSP 2018?
Changing to another tool and using the mouse wheel allows it to lose the background area, but coming back to the crop tool and it is remembered for that image.Ozric wrote:I like 2018 a lot, but the one item I can not get used to is the new behavior with image cropping. So yes it is very clunky and difficult to get used to as it is now different from earlier versions so if you use multiple versions and use the crop tool in both then it can become confusing.
Would like to see a button to turn this off and revert to the normal way.

Thanks for this:)MarkZ wrote:You can show/hide the organizer without a keyboard shortcut. You can have any palette "auto-hide" by clicking on the pin icon next to the x for closing the palette. In the meantime, I've been looking for alternatives, and I really did not remember the Organizer. It works well for what I need, I set up a keyboard shortcut to show / hide the Organizer, I need to get used to it so far I've opened all the images in the work, and maximized them through the Window menu, which is now no longer available. Thank you for your answer!

Re: What do you like in PSP 2018?
What I like: Now you can again change the size of brushes with the arrow keys while holding the cursor over the image. That ability was removed in X9, thank you, Corel, for putting it back.
Raster Deform is gone, nowhere to be found to be added back. Pick tool works in a similar manner but I'll have to get used to a new keyboard shortcut for it. With the pick tool active, you can accidentally click on another layer; you had to change to another tool away from deform to do that. Just something else to get used to.
The Adjust is still there, just not obvious. You can get to it by double clicking an image in the Manage tab but not much you can do there. The tools in the Adjust tab from previous versions are gone. I know they are still on the Edit menu but I liked having them all together in Adjust.

The Raster Deform tool was replaced by the Pick Tool many versions ago. You might still find it in Unused Commands if you go to View>Customize.ADonahoo wrote:Raster Deform is gone, nowhere to be found to be added back. I know that, and I have been adding it back ever since Corel decided nobody was using it. It's no longer in Unused Commands in 2018. That's one of the first things I add back with each new version.

Re: What do you like in PSP 2018?
Raster Deform was an earlier version of the Pick tool and had a shortcut of D. It has been left out of the 2018 PSP as it no longer has a purpose different from the Pick Tool. As for a keyboard shortcut. You can assign D to the Pick tool and still use that shortcut key as it is unassigned to anything else in Edit mode.ADonahoo wrote:Raster Deform is gone, nowhere to be found to be added back. I haven't noticed anything different with the crop tool; it looks the same to me. I like that the script toolbar fits next to the standard toolbar instead of having to be on a line by itself. I had to hunt the File Locations; I don't see the point of moving it out of Preferences.
Or am I missing something. Can you describe something different that you can do with the (Raster) Deform tool that you cannot do with the Pick tool
"With the pick tool active, you can accidentally click on another layer" This is a feature rather than a defect - with 4 different picture tubes n 4 different transparent layers, now you don't have to select a layer when moving say a number of picture tubes around. Just click on each tube in turn and the layer is automatically selected for you. This speeds up processing and rearranging greatly.
In Edit mode
In X4 and X9 and 2018 you have Straighten and Perspective Correction linked together.
In X4 X9 and 2018 you have Warp Brush and Mesh Warp linked together.
Looking back in Jasc PSP 8 you have Deform (Raster Deform), (Straighten , Perspective Correction) and (Mesh Warp together and also a Warp brush under the Paintbrush.)
For Adjust do (in Edit mode) File > Preferences > General Program Preferences and select Tabs . Then tick the Adjust box and you have Adjust back up there beside the Edit . You can also put Manage there if you like as well. Comparing Adjust in 2018 with PSP X9 there is no difference that stands out apart from larger icons.
The Crop tool in earlier versions when you rotated the crop box, it was the box that rotated, while in 2018 the image rotates .
File Locations is now available in Edit (Complete) , Manage and Adjust , just not in Essentials.

Re: What do you like in PSP 2018?
In all previous versions, the application did not want to work natively with 32 bit images, it was always posting a dialog and telling me that it was reducing the data (colour depth). Does this new version work with 32 bit colour depths everywhere?
In all previous versions, the application was not very good at compositing many images into a single larger image. Does this new version stitch images together?
In all previous versions, the application did not do focus stacking. Does this new version do focus stacking?

Re: What do you like in PSP 2018?
OK I did find File Locations on the Manage tab and on the Welcome tab; it it NOT on the Edit tab, and that's where I go first. I do use the Manage tab to scroll through my folders, but only after I get PSP set up. And I found the Adjust tab in preferences; apparently that's not what I had when I double clicked an image on the Manage tab.hartpaul wrote:Raster Deform was an earlier version of the Pick tool and had a shortcut of D. As far as I know I have never rotated the crop box, why would you ever do that? I have never used the pick tool for anything except editing vector objects, like preset shapes. The Deform tool didn't work on vector shapes. As far as clicking on another layer with the tool instead of having to go to the layers palette, I can see where that would be useful. It's just not what I'm used to. So this is me not knowing exactly how the tools all work, and being a creature of habit.
Thank you for your response.

Are you using Edit (Complete) or Edit (Essentials)? File Locations should be available if you are using the Complete toolbar rather than the Essentials toolbar as per the post you quoted. If it is not, let us know.

The screenshot was taken in Edit (Complete.) I won't be using Essentials, no Manage tab there. The Manage tab is where I pull my image from to edit.

Re: What do you like in PSP 2018?
It seems that we need a new thread "What I don't like about 2018" and What problems still remain.
This thread is supposed to be about "What do you like in PSP 2018", and so far there have been a number of posts about problems and solving those rather then what people are liking about PSP 2018. I have been guilty of responding to some of those with problems as well so I have added to the confusion in this thread. So would suggest if it is not a comment about what you are liking in PSP 2018 then start a new thread devoted to problems.
So will provide my answer to ADonohoo in this thread :
