PSP 2018

Post by Zantara »

I installed PSP 2018 today.
I would like to share some issues I came accross while installing PSP 2018.

* Make sure you have your Windows 10 Defender disabled and any third-party anti-virus software or firewall
* Only the Ultimate version is on offer, but the Creative content is a version meant for Windows Vista. It won't install
* Painter comes with the sofware bundle and won't install either
* I have been using 32-bit only PSP up till now, as my members use so many of the old plugins. I decided to go for the 64-bit version only, as I still have X7, X8 and X9 in 32-bit. It still installed both versions
* It won't let you import a saved workspace you made in X9

What I do like so far:
* You can set your workspace to "Essentials" You only see the photo, your toolbar and the colour palette. No distracations. Need some getting used to, but I like it. Choose "Complete"and you have your normal workspace
* The toolbar can be adjustes by unclicking the tools you don't need (so often)
* It does start up a lot faster. Corel promisses up to 50% faster. Don't know about that, but it is a lot faster

I'll add to this topic as en when I find more things worth mentioning.

I will write to Corel about the Creative content and Painter Software. Will let you know how that turns out.

A cleanup tool would be most handy.

I had no problems installing with Avast on one Windows 10 machine and Defender enabled on my other Windows 10 machine. So, if you find yourself needing to disable anything for PSP (which hopefully should never happen) always make sure you trust the source first. If your anti-virus is complaining, it could be a false positive but always worth verifying for sure.
The Creative Content installer worked without issue for me, again on Windows 10. So not sure what made you think it was a Vista only installer.
Did not try to install Painter.

I tried several times to install PSP 2018 as an administrator, but no joy, until I remembered that previous versions demanded you disable your virusscanner/firewall.

The reason I think the Creative content is meant for Vista is because that is what the message refers to (see attachment)
Painter should install itself into PSP 2018, but hasn't.

Granted I'm on Windows 7 Professional and not Windows 10 but no issues with any of the Ultimate Package installations.

Just to clarify, it's Painter Essentials 5; not Painter 2018 that is included in the Ultimate package and it is a stand alone program. It is not supposed to install into PSP 2018.
PSPX9 | PSP2020 | PSP2021| PSP2022 | PSP2023 & PhotoMirage installed; PSPX | PSPX2 thru PSP2019 owned but not installed

I removed PSP 2018, using Windows uninstall, as there is no cleanup tool yet.
Reinstalled PSP 2018 64-bit.
This time I didn't disable Windows Defender or Kapersky and it installed sweet as a nut.
Funny thing was that this time a zipfile was downloaded, which didn't the first time.
The zipfile contains all the files you need for setup, etc.
The first time I was under the impression that I was only given a downloader as the file was only 4,35 Mb and that the complete software was then downloaded from their server.
I was wondering how that was going to work as you don't have the two years grace to download your purchase again, when needed.

However, Painter 5 (as Kathy so correctly mentions) or any of the other software/plugin in the bundle, except Aftershot 3, won't install.

* It won't let you import a saved workspace you made in X9
You should NEVER import a workspace from a different version. Workspaces include information about the tools specific to that version and if you install it on a different version, you usually will have issues.

I had no problems installing with my AV software running. So far so good. I do like the Essential workspace. Quick and easy editing with no clutter :)

I learn all the time.
@Cassel. Didn't know that. Hadn't done it before, just tried out if it worked. It doesn't. Doesn't take that long to adjust your workspace to personal needs and wishes.
@DaveQ: yeah, I love that feature. Will use it a lot.

UPDATE: first response from Corel support. Advise is to disable anit-virus and firewall and run the install as administrator.
Tried that the first time. Didn't work. Now awaiting further support.

@Radim...your wish is my command, Sir :D :D Uhm...is it Sir or Madam?????????????

I changed the language of PSP 2018 into English for you and made a few screengrabs. I have the 64-bit only version of PSP 2018 installed.

Welcome screen with version number

Toolbar In Dutch. Already changed back to my native language, when I realised I forgot that one.

You can now uncheck any tool you don't use (often) and check again when needed.

Startup is considerably faster than previous versions. 64-bit Plugins work. I do like the Essentials.

Further to my previous post on Corel support...I received a message from Corel, sending me a link to a website to download a WinAudit tool. The website is no longer in use and a message on that site tells me the tool has been handed over to another website. Furthermore the person at Corel support wanted me to use Windows system report to compile an in depth report of everything on my computer.
I kindly declined. I do not think that if you buy a tv, you have to show everything in your house when you complain that only the on/off button on the remote works and not the rest.

Also considering an upgrade from X9 Pro but already have full Aftershot Pro 3 purchased and need to justify expenses.
While PSP X9 and 2018 seem to have no issues with high DPI screens, Aftershot Pro 3 looks blurry on my Surface Pro 4. Does anybody know if Corel is going to fix it any soon? (or may be already did for PSP 2018 Ultimate package?)

One problem I am finding is on the Welcome screen when I try to learn more and watch some of the videos PSP wants to use Internet Explorer rather than my default browser.

Ah..it's a setting that you didn't have before.
Go to File > Preferences > Filelocation > on the left hand side you will now find an option "webbrowser". Click on button "Add" .Find the path to your preferred browser.
The screengrab shows a Dutch PSP version, but I'm sure you can work it out. :-)
