VS x10 Ult FREEZES when using video from Google Pixel 120fps
The Google Pixel smartphone has the option to take 120fps video. When I attempt to transfer video into VS x10 it completely freezes the software and I have to use Task Manager to end the application. This does not happen with any other videos from Google Pixel, my Phantom 4 Drone, or my GoPro.
When that video is downloaded to my computer before I attempt to transfer to VS, the details read
Video
Length 00:00:03
Frame width 1920
Frame height 1080
Data rate 9946kbps
Total bitrate 10012kbps
Frame rate 30 frames/second
Audio
Bit rate 66kbps
Channels 1(mono)
Audio sample rate 12 kHz
I uploaded OpenShot Video Editor to my computer so that I can run the Google Pixel video through it, export it, then finally use it in VSx10.
Sad but true.
Is this happening for anyone else?

Hi
And welcome to the forums
You mention 120fps but show 30 fps for the video properties, can I assume that recording is done at 120fps with onboard process saving at 30pfs, playback would then be slow motion?
My first thoughts are using OpenShot Video Editor
Are you able to connect your phone to your pc, or memory card, then copy and paste the video file to the pc?

It might also be useful if you could upload a small sample of the Google 120 fps video to a site like One Drive, Dropbox or similar, so that we could download it and try it out on our computers...
Can you also tell us if, in Preferences > General, you have the box ticked beside "Show message when inserting first video clip". If you do, then when you start a new project and insert one of the Google videos, do you get a message asking if you want to have the Project Properties match those of the clip?

Re: VS x10 Ult FREEZES when using video from Google Pixel 12
I must not have been clear, sorry. Yes, Google Pixel can film at 120fps. The phone must process and save it at a lower fps because when it downloads to my computer the details show 30fps. If I go directly to VSx10 it freezes up, so I put the 30fps video through Openshot first, save it, and then I able to do further editing with the newly saved version in VSx10.lata wrote:Hi

Oh would you please try it! That would be awesome. This is one of the short clips. https://www.dropbox.com/sh/tn09fixyxt4x ... s1_ma?dl=0Ken Berry wrote:It might also be useful if you could upload a small sample of the Google 120 fps video to a site like One Drive, Dropbox or similar, so that we could download it and try it out on our computers...

The other "get around" i used before Openshot was to upload to Youtube (private video) and then redownload it to my computer. That worked too. In other words, it seems everything can handle this file except for VS. (PS. Love VS, this is the first major problem I have had)
...and i always get a message when I insert my first video clip (except with these videos because VS freezes immediately)

Downloaded your clip, definitely plays in slow motion, to be expected if recorded at 120 fps and played back at 30 fps, plays without any hesitation in VSX10. Just what are your computer specs

Re: VS x10 Ult FREEZES when using video from Google Pixel 12
Unlike Robert, your clip immediately froze my own X10. I repeated the process, but it froze again, though neither time did I receive any error message. VS just became totally unresponsive, even when I left it for a while. I had to close it with Task Manager.
I happen to have a number of other NLEs, and it played fine in all of them: Cyberlink PowerDirector 15, Sony Movie Studio Platinum 14, Magix Movie Editor Pro 2015 and Adobe Premiere Elements 14. All played in slow motion, which was to be expected.
Interestingly enough, both the Sony and Adobe programs gave slightly different readings for the frame rate. Sony said it was 29.826 fps and Adobe said it was 29.83 fps. Magix showed it at 29.97 fps and Cyberlink at 30 fps.
The Sony and Adobe readings, however, reminded me that this video came from a recent smartphone, and as we already know, a number of these phones film using a variable frame rate. Moreover, we also know that Video Studio has difficulty with variable frame rates, so I am wondering if even the very slight variation in frame rate shown by Sony and Adobe is enough to freeze VS...
Anyway, I then converted the clip to "standard" mpeg-4 -- with identical properties but using the fixed 30 fps -- and had no trouble playing that in X10. Quality remained excellent. I used Format Factory for the conversion (sorry asik!!).

It must be the file type. I have used Slo-Mo from my Panasonic 750 on a number of occasions without any problem. It records as a MP4 file and mixes with AVCHD files without glitches.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Hmmm... after seeing all these successful uses of the same clip, and after several hours since I last tried, I opened X10 again, and again tried to insert that clip. And again X10 simply froze... And again I had to close it with Task Manager. You can see the computer and OS I used under my Avatar...

Hi Ken
I guess we could ask the normal questions regarding your program but am sure it will be the current version. I do not have an explanation why you and seemingly JoKa are having problems.
I assume you have the Quicktime Codec installed?
I first added the clip to the library, no issues and played ok
Then inserting to the timeline prompts me to match the project properties, those details show as:-
MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 1920 x 1080, 30 fps
Frame-based
H.264 High Profile Video: 10511 Kbps
12000 Hz, 16 Bit, Mono
MPEG AAC Audio: 96 Kbps
everything seems normal, plays ok in SloMo.

Re: VS x10 Ult FREEZES when using video from Google Pixel 12
My experience may shed some light on this file. In my desktop, described in the right panel, running Win 7 the file gives zero problems. In my laptop running Win 10, the file results in frozen X10 and X9, neither of the two versions of VS can cope with the file.
It appears the problem is Windows 10.
