How to "Make DVDs act like hard drives"?

Post by Dale77 »

I upgraded to DVDMF4 Disc Creator primarily for this purpose, as advertised on Ulead's website:

"NEW • Make DVDs/CDs act like hard drives - Format your discs with Data-Add to conveniently drag files on and off the disc, just like it was a computer hard drive." :D

But I cannot find any mention of "Data-Add" in any of the poorly-written documentation :( neither does there seem to be any way to "make DVDs act like hard drives." Has anybody found a way to do this?

Rather than explaining how that's done I can tell you all the documentation
for MovieFactory 4 are in PDF format.
Each Module has it's own PDF information file and is located in the
directories the programs were installed in.
Another method is to open the module and select Help.

The easiest method is to goto
"Start
Programs
Ulead DVD Movie Factory 4.0 Disc Creator
User Manuals -> Select them and read em.

You should also print the "READ ME"
I find printing the material is much easier and saves time.

Hope this helps,

I've read the manual. That's why I said I cannot find anything in the documentation that mentions "Data-Add," or making a DVD disc act like a computer hard drive.

I've formatted DVD-RW discs using UDF but when I try to drag-and-drop files to them, I get an error message saying the disk is full, which is not true because the disc is empty. :?

I know how to drag-and-drop files from within DVDMF, but the product description says "Make DVDs/CDs act like hard drives - Format your discs with Data-Add to conveniently drag files on and off the disc, just like it was a computer hard drive."

Does anybody know how to do this :?:
Does anybody know what "Data-Add" is :?:

First to start you can't have any other packet writing software on the
machine or none of the drag & drop methods will work. They clash
with each other.

Depending on your media, preferably CD/RW or DVD+RW.
You can use DVD-RW. They take longer to format.

Goto START -> Programs -> Ulead DVD MovieFactory4 Disc Creator -> Disk Burning -> Ulead Burn Now 2.0
Next Screen last Icon on Bottom
Click on "Disk Tools" -> UDF Format
Leave the File System at 1.5 and I would perform a full format of the disk. They work better.
After the disk is formatted it should be ejected.

Insert the disk back into the writer and wait until windows is stable (windows stable!! are you kidding!!) Ignore that please.

Then open up "My Computer" right click on the drive and you will see all the data-add functions of Format, Certify, format.
(Just remember those programs are there).
Close that pop-up screen, you don't need it.

I would then double-click on the cd/dvd burner which will show an empty window. Any new files you drag to the disk will show up in the future.

From that point on you just drag & drop files from windows explorer to the cd/dvd disks open window. You should have the cd/dvd disk open in a window to see what's happening.

A tip to remember when moving files in windows is it's better to "Right-Click" on the file(s) and while still holding the right mouse button down drag the files into the cd/dvd open window. When you release the right-mouse button a small menu will ask you to "Move" or "CopY" or a shortcut.
That method is better because if you use the left mouse button and don't toggle the mode with the <shiftl> key you can end up moving the files at the sametime.

When you re-open the cd/dvd the stored files will show as being on the cd/dvd. You can also browse the directories just like your harddrive.

One last point when using CD/RW's or DVD-RW's you need to FINALIZE the cd or dvd before trying to use the disk in another machine.
That would be done by right-clicking on the cd drive and selecting Data-Add Finalize .

You shouldn't have to finalize a DVD+RW. You can usually write to them
and use the disk right away in another machine.

Hope this helps,
