Weird Outline issue with Layer Styles

Depending on the placement of the Vector 'W' on the graphic the outline glow corrupts...


Note the 'W' on the right is correct, the 'W' on the left is missing the outline glow on portions of the letter


If I move the text layer to the left, both 'W's are corrupt


here's the settings for the Outer Glow.

Anyone experience this before or figured out a workaround?

I think it's something to do with the font you are using.
It doesn't happen with the attached Clarendon font:
