PSP9 to PSPx8

Post by GmMe »

The old Jasc PSP9 I know pretty well has become totally incompatible with Windows10 post update 1703 and the latest PSPx9 I do not like: I tried the trial, it is too sophisticated for my modest needs and, in my opinion, excessively little "user friendly " for some aspects and too automated for other aspects; for example, manual color correction in photos (both dominant and non) is better manageable in previous versions.
I've tried PSPx8 and I think it's more like the old PSP9, but I do not know the differences between Corel versions with / without X and I would like to have some expert tips:
- what does X mean?
- PSPx8 (would it seem compatible with WIN10) is higher or lower than PSP9 ?
- Wanting to stay in PSP for the already acquired skill (I've already tried other SWs, such as GIMP), do you have any suggestions? Which version to install, similar to Jasc PSP9, but compatible with WIN10 updates?
Thank you.

The X is simply the Roman numeral 10 -- so X8 is version 18 and X9 is version 19 - the numbering has continued from the old JASC system

All current versions have an X because we are now in the "teen" versions

Well, thanks, so x8 is certainly better than old 9.
Can you reply about the 3rd question? As Windows too has become particularly critical and intolerant with old SW, is PSPx8 fully compatible?

I would say go with PSP X9 as the Save function was crippled in X8.
Here is a list of the versions of Paintshop pro and what was added / changed in each version:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_P ... o_releases

But don't forget that with Paintshop pro you can also customize a lot of settings to perhaps make it look similar to Jasc PSP9.
I came in at Jasc PSP 8 and now that I am familiar with PSP X9 I would not think of going back to PSP8.

There will always be a learning experience with any change to versions, perhaps more so from 8 or 9 to X8 or X9 but you would have a greater learning task with any other program. At least you are familiar with the basics of 9 so many of these are still the same in X9 and should not be difficult to master.

Well, I'm actually trying a 8.10 version
PSP810.JPG
and strangely it runs OK in Win10.
I'll try next the newest x8 version to verify the suitability of my needs.
About the x9 version I already tested, for example I do not like the lack of color manipulation as before, I find the manual function "Color balance" preferable to the new automated.
In your experience, between the basic version (x8) and the "x8 ultimate" version there are substantial differences?
Thanks anyway.

GmMe "In your experience, between the basic version (x8) and the "x8 ultimate" version there are substantial differences?"
This is one of the most asked questions and is a basic marketing ploy by Corel
See the answer to the question on this forum above s a sticky post:

http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=56&t=61471

So repeat there is only one version of PSP X8 . PSP X8 translates as PSP X8 + some extra added programs which add a little more to the price. So if you do not need these extras then buy the cheaper basic.
GmMe " I do not like the lack of color manipulation as before, I find the manual function "Color balance"
Can you direct me to that Color Balance you prefer using your 8.10 version

Is it Adjust > Color Balance > Color Balance ?
I just checked and that has been removed even from the Unused Commands in the Customise dialog ( I rarely Color Balance anyway preferring Red/Green/Blue instead)
But it is also possible to customise your own tool bar with older functions you use most often as I have in PSP X9:

Yes, I mean that and I also use the two methods alternately.
About x9 you give me interesting information, but it's a bit long story.
I do not have much time to test, I've downloaded x9 trial and it's gone, I could buy it with the possible reimbursement complication ...
The 30 days also expired due to a poor Corel assistance service, I had a x9 crash problem (repeatable and reproducible) in running a feature, they asked for numerous checks, and finally claimed that I reinstalled Windows ex-novo.
They have never asked for a PSP dump (!!!) while an MS forumer from there has identified the probable cause (two Visual C ++ 2012 modules may be corrupted), a problem already known and documented in https://support.corel.com (!!!)
In the meantime the trial time expired and I could not even test it!
Even for this reason I am trying to test PSPx8, but I can not find an installable download trial (Corel has supplied me the SW but does not even provide the key for installation and testing !!!).
Welcome any indication or help.
