Editing performace issue

Post by Skipper »

Back into some editing after a significant break! Purchased VS10 earlier in the year but did no editing till now.
I laid up a few full HD clips on the time line and fiddled with them - all worked well, then added to a total of 5.5 minutes and now it has the stutters from about 30 seconds in.
I checked preferences only to find under performance that my settings were un-ticked - from smart proxy to all the hardware encoder/decoder acceleration features, so I have now ticked them all
Still no improvement.
Do I need to re-import all the clips to the time line to cause the generation of Smart Proxy files or should this happen in retrospective in the background now that the requirement is recognised?
I have tried shutting the program and re-opening with no change
Any advise apperciated

If you make a lot of edits, add filters, etc to your timeline video clips, don't be surprised that even with Proxy files, playing the project may not be smooth. I experience that with 4K videos even with my powerful pc.

To create Proxy files after ticking the option, you need to force the creation of them by selecting the video clips and right-click to find the command.

Hi

Once Smart Proxy has been selected any clip being added to the timelines with a frame size above the setting 720 x576(Pal) 720x480(ntsc) will have proxy files created automatically.

Any existing files on the timeline, we have to manually create those, as Al says, right click the clip for options.
Once Smart Proxy files have been created a small icon can be seen in the clip.

Typically.....

Smart Proxy should improve Project Playback.

Thanks to both of you for your quick response. I have followed your instructions and - presto - it all works again.
And from here on in the auto function will keep new files with the additional proxy files.
Its just magic :D
