IMPORTING INTO FILTERS UNLIMITED
Hi
I successfully installed Filters Unlimited in my X9/32bit and X2.
Can do some importing only in X2
However when I try to import plugins like I did in my old Win7 pc some of the files are empty like for the Bkg and Alfs Power, etc.
(they are not empty when I look at them apart from psp)
Andrews seem to be ok to import.
Any suggestions?
I have a new Win10 pc/home edition/Dell Inspiron.

Re: IMPORTING INTO FILTERS UNLIMITED
The good news is, your Filters Unlimited should work absolutely fine in Windows 10 and PSP X9
Better news still, there shouldn't be bad news.
* Find the plugin-folders of the plugins you want to import into Filters Unlimited
* Copy the plugin files
* Find the location where you installed Filters Unlimited
* Find there the folder ICNET-Filters.db
* Paste the plugin files into de db-file
* Go to the next plugin folder, copy the plugin files and copy them and paste them into the db-file
You should be able to find them next time you open Filters Unlimited in PSP.

@MarjV
Yes, and I find it quicker and easier than import. That stops functioning at some point, so you have to apply the import fix to go on.
By copying the plugin files into FU's databasefile, you save yourself that hassle. Anything for a hasslefree PSP life.

I tried your plan - they don't show up in x9/32 bit or x8/32; only in x2

Re: IMPORTING INTO FILTERS UNLIMITED
Hi MarjV,
Thanks for at least mentioning the name of one of the filter sets you were trying to install.
I downloaded Alf's Power toys and now have them available in X9 and PSP2018. I also have them working in Jasc PSP8 so presume they will work in all 32 bit versions of PSP from at least PSP8 upward.
I should point out that I have a folder in Documents called My Filters Unlimited and using PSP File > Preferences > File Locations I add a location that points to My Filters Unlimited in all of my PSP versions.
eg in my case it reads "C:\Users\paul\Documents\My Filters Unlimited"
The advantage of this is that if you have to reinstall PSP then you only have to add the location. If you put it in the PSP Plugins section then it gets deleted when you reinstall.
This is what I did:
1. Downloaded the Alfs Power Tools which appeared in my Downloads folder as a AlfsPowerToys.zip
2. Made a temporary folder UNZIP on the desktop.
3. Unzipped the AlfsPowerToys.zip file into that folder
4. The unzipped files consisted of :
ALFILTER.TXT
CHGRAD.8BF
CHGRAD.AFS
CHOFF.8BF
CHOFF.AFS
etc ie a set of filters ending .8bf and a set ending .afs
5. I made a new folder called Alfspowertools and copied all the .8bf filters into that folder.
6. Started PSP X9 , X8, 2018, whatever you want. Loaded an image . Effects > Plugins > I.C.NET Software > Filters Unlimited 2.0 which opened Filters Unlimited in my workspace
7. Database > New type in Alfs Power Toys and click OK It will show below the Database
Database: Alfs Power Toys
Filters: 0
It shows 0 because you have not imported any filters into that database yet.
8. Click on Import and browse to your desktop UNZIP and Alfs Power Toys and open it and you will see all the .8bf filters. Highlight select all those filters (11) and click OK.
The filters are imported and the name Alf's Power Toys should appear up top under Navigator and down below Filters: 11 should now show.
9. Click on Alf's Power toys above and you should see in the Middle
Channel Gradient
Channel Ofset
.
.
.
Subnoise.
Enjoy your filters
You can delete the Unzip folder or just delete all in that folder and leave it for next time you need to unzip something.

HI
The above does not work for my X8 and X9 32bit PSP
For instance, none of the Bkg will show up
And if I try to import this attachment shows up.
All I can use for FU is my X2.
Any thing you recommend to fix FU . Or maybe I need to uninstall x8 and x9.
Thanks
This PSP is no fun whatsoever.

Re: IMPORTING INTO FILTERS UNLIMITED
Hi MarjV
Sorry to hear you are having some problems.
I managed to install Bkg Kaleidoscope in My Filters Unlimited and they are available in both X8 and X9
You mentioned you can use them in X2.
Where is your My Filters Unlimited folder located.
I have mine in
C:\Users\*User Name*\Documents\My Filters Unlimited on windows 10
If you open X2 and then do File > Preferences > File locations and plugins copy the link that refers to My Filters Unlimited .
Then open X8 and again go to File > Preferences > File Locations and plugins and click on Add and paste your X2 details into there.
Close and open and you should find the filters available

Re: IMPORTING INTO FILTERS UNLIMITED
I will definitely try that!
I have FU installed in Program Files where I made a Plugins file .
Would you recommend I install it in Documents?
Thanks

Re: IMPORTING INTO FILTERS UNLIMITED
It will work in either location.
Others have recommended placing a folder in Documents called My Filters Unlimited.
The point here being that when you do a backup you usually backup the Documents folder and not the Programs folder.
Since the programs folder and the Documents folder are generally both on the C drive they are equivalent in access time.
Best not to place them in a folder in the PSP version folder as if you uninstall the PSP version then you lose the filters you have added there.
