Small display
Hello,
My son send me a mp4 clip from his smartphone in order to integrate it with a movie which I am editing now.
Unfortunately it appears very small in the screen (see the attached photo).
Any idea how to expand it to full screen?
Thanks,
Abraham

Re: Small display
Hi
Can you give details of your video clip, right click the clip on the timeline and choose properties, what are they?
You could create an image of that panel to attach to your post.
Can you also give the properties of your project (alt+ Enter)
Which timeline have you added the video to, or is it in the library?
The view looks wrong being in Clip mode I would expect to see the yellow trim/resize handles?

Re: Small display
Hi
You said it was a MP4 video from your sons phone, yet those properties are M2TS, bog standard for a AVCHD camcorder?
If you are using m2ts have you applied any filters or customise motion?

Yes, the original file was mp4. after I have seen the problem, I converted it to m2ts like the all other clips of the project.

Re: Small display
Hi
Is the smaller clip embedded in a black background, so what you see is the entire video frame.
Go to F6 Preferences and change the background colour to any but black, that will allow you to id the project frame.
Now add the clip to the overlay track
The clip should show as a smaller frame with the coloured background, do you see black around your video?
View the original MP4 video.
provide details of the original video?
as an aside---your project properties should match your video files properties using 1920 x 1080

Hi
I have changed the background color to white, but as you see in the attached overlay track picture, it remains black and I can't see any possibility to enlarge the internal small video.
Attached also the original mp4 properties.

Re: Small display
Hi Abraham
The properties still look a little strange for a Phone video, is that the original video as recorded by the phone, or has the original been converted to those settings?
You can try the FX cropping filter to remove the border, deselect Fill Color.
Video Pan and Zoom should also work.
The quality is gonna be poor given that you are zooming in to remove the border.

Re: Small display
Thank you Trevor,
You are absolutely right. The VS program didn't recognize the original mp4 file from the phone, so I used a conversion program to convert it to mp4 (again) so this time the VS recognize it.
I don't have any idea why (I don't understand most of the properties).
Attached is the properties of the original clip from the phone.
Anyway, this clip is not so important for my project, so I can easily not use it.
I really appreciate your efforts to help
Regards,
Abraham

Re: Small display
Some things to try
1 / Quicktime is required for mov type video and I believe some MP4 video may also benefit
Do you have Quicktime installed on your pc?
There was a security issue with the QT player but we can safely install the QT Codec.

2 / Try renaming the original video to use Mov as its file extension, a trick that sometimes works.
3 / Convert the original video again using different settings, choose settings as near to the original as possible and convert to Mov, Also try WMV

Re: Small display
Sorry that I am meddling here. I am not a VideoStudio specialist. But try the following.
- Your clip is on the overlay track(?) Seen on your screenshot.
- Left click the clip on the timeline. Your problem clip is framed in the preview.
- Right click the clip on the preview monitor.
- Than select "Original Size" from the pop-up menu.
What does it look like? For a better understanding I add a screenshot. Sorry is in German.

Re: Small display
Thank you Trevor and Wolters,
May be my problem is that the clip was taken in portrait mode instead of landscape. After downloaded it to VS and choosing the full screen it looks like the following image, so the sky is to the right side (I don't understand why):
After left rotating to the normal position (sky upside) the clip looks like the following image:
By the way, I have changed the extension to mov and it doesn't help.
As I have written before it is not necessary to me to use this clip, and my conclusion is to prefer only clips from video camera.
Thanks again,
Abraham

Re: Small display
Hi Abraham
Thanks for the update and explanation.
Ok I realise you have finished with this video but just in case you receive other portrait video try using Customise Motion to rotate and zoom
Rotate Z by 90 or -90
Size -- increase to zoom in
Right click first keyframe for copy to all
Ok to return to timelines.
View in Project playback
Recording using a phone should be done in landscape. AFSIK some newer phones can recognise the aspect and correct in phone, so all recordings are landscape.
