Any way to clear "Remember Text"?

Post by Djard007 »

I made the time-consuming mistake of trying the "Remember Text" feature of the Text Tool. Now I am unable to type text without the previous text automatically entered. In preferences, clipboard data is set to be emptied upon exit of the program, but that fails.

For me, the help files are useless about 99% of the time; but I ran a search for a solution anyway. Nothing came up for "Remember text," and I found no mention of the feature in the sections about working with text.

Anybody know how to stop PSP form entering old text whenever trying to use the Text Tool, or do I need to reinstall PSP (version X8)?

Turn off remember text. Remember Text is a feature that is toggled on and off and is recorded into the registry. When it's on, it remembers the last entered text. When it's off, it doesn't. It's not permenant. Just untoggle it.

Not in my case. After fiddling with the feature, I discovered that right-clicking on the highlighted permits writing of new text. I saved another word to test my discovery, which worked OK. Then I double-clicked elsewhere, and the original text re-appeared; so evidently it saved the remembered text in some history file. Well, at least I can continue working on my project.

Thanks for your kind response.

I did a search in various versions for Remember text and it was missing as a search result even as far back as Jasc PSP8. However I had the manual for PSP8 - 437 pages with a good index and Remember Text was an entry in that index.
In the Help section "Remember Text" appears in the section Creating Text :

"To create text:

1. On the Tools toolbar, choose the Text tool .

2. On the Materials palette, choose the foreground material as the text outline and the background material as the text fill (the area within characters). See Basics of Using the Materials palette.
For standard text with no outline, set the Stroke width on the Tool Options palette to 0 or click the Foreground Material box’s Transparent button. For hollow text, click the Background Material box’s Transparent button .

3. On the Tool Options palette, in the Create as drop-down list choose the type of text: Vector, Selection, or Floating. For more information, see About Vector, Floating, and Selection Text.

4. Choose the text formatting options, such as font, point size, stroke width, and alignment. See Formatting Text.

5. Click in the image where you want to place the text. The Text Entry dialog opens.

8. Type the text. As you type in the dialog, the text displays on the image. To add a line break, press Enter.

7. To change any of the text formatting options, in the Text Entry dialog, highlight the words or characters that you want to change, and then make changes on the Tool Options palette. For more information about editing, see Editing Text.

8. Mark the Remember Text check box to display the entered text the next time you open the Text Entry dialog.

9. Click Apply. The text displays on the image."

Back then the text was entered via a text box and associated with that was a small tick box for Remember Text.
You can still see that by holding the Shift key down when you click the location to start typing text on your document.

To go along with hartpaul's very detailed instructions. :D

Video - no audio. It shows the two areas where you can find the "Remember Text" option and how to turn it on and off. The first way uses the text box hartpaul mentions above. Hold SHIFT while clicking with the text tool to bring it up. The other method is just clicking on the "Remember Text" button that's on the Tool Options palette. I fumble with this in the video as there are three areas that auto-hide when my script is all squished like it is for this video. So I click on the little white arrows to reveal them. Btu the button looks like the letter T over a floppy disk. It's only accessible while writing text.

Thank you all for sparing your valuable time to help me. Following the detailed steps and video both work nicely. I'm a bit puzzled why I was unable to toggle off the Remember Text feature before, since I don't recall doing anything differently to what you kindly showed. Evidently I overlooked something. Again, thank you.
