Cannot use Visman filters in PSP X9 Ultimate

Post by PattiD13 »

2. Describe your problem: I am trying to use some Visman filters in my PSP X9 Ultimate. None of them are working, but I was trying to use the Spirograph one in particular when I found this issue and then tested the others with the same results. I am getting an error message that says "Unable to load the requested plug-in filter. The plug-in may not be installed properly or may be missing files. (Plugin: spiro.8bf)"
I have looked through the boards and tried installing the dlls all the places mentioned that they need to be, as well as trying to redownload and reinstall them. I'm not sure what is causing this problem? They are older filters, and I was wondering if they're just not compatible now?

3. What devices are involved and their mode of connection?: Windows 10, 64 bit desktop, broadband internet connection.

4. The Version of program is being used : PSP X9 Ultimate

5. Please list all patches/updates that have been installed relating to that version of the program. Most recent update is there, Don't know how to locate the information of what patches I have?

6. Details of the source files.

Note: to obtain all the properties of a file, right click on a video file in either the VS timeline or library window.
Where did they originate (camcorder, internet, TV card etc) internet
How did they get onto your hard drive (download, firewire, USB cable etc.) Downbload

7. Project Settings Um...?

8. PAL or NTSC

9. Did this error occur at the SHARE - Create Video Step-- No
OR have you gone directly to the SHARE - Create Disc Step-- No
(In other words you have a VSP file in the Create Disc Step)-- no
Not doing video I think?

10. Error Codes (if any): "Unable to load the requested plug-in filter. The plug-in may not be installed properly or may be missing files. (Plugin: spiro.8bf)"

The Visman filters are 32bit plugins, so will only work with the 32bit version of PSP, not the 64bit version that you are trying to use. Did you install both the 32bit and 64bit versions of PSP when prompted when you installed the program?

I think you will find that you are using the 64 bit version of PSP, while the filters you want to use will be 32 bit and so won't work with 64 bit PSP. That's one of the reasons the PSP installation process offers to install both the 32 and 64 bit versions of the program.

This is quite common as many manufacturers of older filters never update them to 64 bit.

You may also find these (very) old posts in another forum interesting, though again bearing in mind that PSP 8 and 9 were both 32 bit:

Ah, thank you. I bet that is it. (That I'm using 64 and not 32.) I will go check into that.

You can install Visman filters into Filters Unlimited. They work like a dream in there.
If you don't have FU, you can download a freebie, google Filters Unlimited and download. They only work in 32bit PSP.
When installed, do the usual File locations in PSP and locate to FU. File/Preferences/File Locations/Plugins ...... Add: Filters Unlimited 2.0. Click OK.
Go to Effects / Plugins / Filters Unlimited 2.0 which whill open.
Go to Database, select New. Type Visman. OK.
All the main filters will show in the left panel. Click on any of the names and filter links will open in the right panel.
Here you select the filter you wish to use. Good luck using FU. 2.0.

Well, the first idea did not work out. I installed the 32 bit version of my PSP X9, and attempted to open them in it. I got the same error message. Trueblue, I will try your suggestion next, thank you.

I have the Visman filters working in PSP X9 with Win 10 Anniversary 1607 Build 14393.1480.
Visman Filters.jpg
When I checked my System32 and SysWow64 folders I had only 4 of the recommended dll files

System32 -
msvcrt.dll

SysWOW64 -
msvcrt.dll
msvcrt20.dll
msvcrt40.dll

You can find information on these here:
http://www.lismibaebi.com/ABC_9_Plugins ... gins3.html

and the Visman filters and others here:
http://www.lismibaebi.com/FiltersandPlu ... ugins.html

Note that using the Database Import part caused my PSP to crash but there was an Import Fix which involved a registry change. I obtained this from the Beginners workshop here:

http://bw-forums.com/index.php
Good luck.

I can't make a new Data Base in Filters Unlimited.
I made one for Graphics Plus.
Now I can't make any more because I get a Error ----"error creating directory. Maybe a datebase of this name already exists.

Happens on all - x2, x8/32bit , x9/32bit

Any one know a fix?

I am trying to get myself out from under Photoshop Pricing. Photography editing in PSP is fine.

I do other stuff however. I have created some interesting designs in Photoshop (fairly easily) based on spirographs - see YouTube video below

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VhERLhOeHiU (there are many similar examples for Photoshop - but none for PaintShop that I can find

Is there similar functionality in PaintShop Pro? OR Corel Painter Essentials (I got it with PSP)? I am unexpert in PaintShop Pro and any help/guidance would be appreciated

Thanks in advance

Can you repost your question in a separate new topic as this one is about problems with Visman filters. Perhaps topic heading Spirograph in PSP 2018. I can partly reproduce your spirograph using a script and resize and free rotate, but am having a problem with the line thickness also decreasing.
